Subject: Magnum Engines IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know if it is possible to place a stock 1991 318 intake, exhaust manifolds and sensors onto a 92 and newer magnum block and heads. This way I could avoid having to change the computer and wiring harness.
Thanks for any advice

Message: Thanks Martin, however I went to the local Wrecker and discovered that the intake mounts differently to the heads between the two and therefor are not interchangable.
Any advice on how to add more to the stock 91 318

Message: if you buy that engine you can keep your carb and buy a manifold for a magnum that accepts carbs.
then you will get the roller motor and improved heads.
just check to see if your carb will fit on the new manifold first...mabey someone here knows..

Message: One of the other problems with using the pre-Magnum computer is the 40+hp difference. Remember, the Magnum heads flow better, and it has a hotter cam. If you used the pre-Magnum cam, Magnum block, pre-Magnum heads and pre-Magnum intake, you should be okay. The Magnums oil through the pushrods, but you can do this too with hollow pushrods and lifters that oil..which the '91 probably has. It was a transition thing. My '89 318 has these. With the Magnums, Mopar just did away with the oiling through the heads to the rockers.
If you want to stick with the Magnum deal, you'll need a Magnum M1 intake, and the '91 TBI will not fit due to an offset bolt pattern, and it's a 2V TBI, the intakes for carb/TBI are 4V.
You could have the Magnum heads drilled for the pre-Magnum intake, but the Magnum heads have 360-sized ports, so there'd be a port mis-match, but it'd work. You'd come out better with a '91 360 intake in that case.
Basically, several options are possible, but the easiest thing to do would be to swap in a cam that's computer-friendly with your model, as well as matching valvesprings, and be happy. If that's not enough, and if you're willing, there's more that can be done.
Comp Cams has an OEM replacement cam that has considerably more lift, but will not upset the computer. 254HR-12.
