I would clean the throttle body especially along the edges of the plates for carbon build-up. Then I would clean the iac and the air by-pass port on the tb where the iac is hooked up and see if that helps.

Checking the vacuum is a good thing too.

Actually if it's a 5.2L, 400 is normal. I have a '95 with a Magnum 5.2L, and after it gets warm it has ALWAYS idled at 400rpm. It's not a rough idle, mind you. In fact since I switched to AMSOIL, I've ahd to check the tach on several ocassions while stopped at a light because it was idling so smoothly and quietly I thought maybe it had died on me! If it's a rough 400rpm idle, I'd check into it though.

Yeah when im writing these things sometimes I forget necessary info..

94 5.2 auto new plugs wires cap rotor coil cleaned thottle body and iac motor assy. checked for vacuum leaks with either, it also does a lot of pinging on 89 fuel. not much on 93 but that gets expensive. bought vacuum gauge but did not get it on yet.

carmen ... info helps :-) Pinging can make the computer back off the timing. Any codes stored? O2 sensor been replaced? An O2 sensor whose response time has significantly slowed down can cause misfiring.

Yeah something is wrong with your engine if it pings with 89. All I run is 87 and throw in a pinch of Redline once a month. I may try some 93 or 89 to see if I notice any difference, but I don't expect to.
