Subject: Ford F-150 Timing Chain IP: Logged
Message: A friend of mine with a 99 Ford F-150 V-8 took it in for a motor problem and they told him it was a bad timing chain and they would have to replace the whole motor as you can't replace just the chain because of the way the motors are built.
What's up with this? Are any of the Dodge V-8 built like this?

Message: I interpret this to mean not that they're replacing the motor because they can't get to the chain, but that they're replacing the motor because it got damaged when the chain broke. Am I correct?

Message: The truck runs but needs a new timing chain. They told him that because of the way the engines are made they can't replace it.

Message: Absolute best place to go to get an immediate and definitive answer to your question: www.f150online.com.
But I suspect theyll tell you you need to talk to a different mechanic.
