How about the coil have checked that. It's possible that a bad crankshaft position sensor affect the problem.

Even though he said it wrong, DAKJOCK has a point. If you are not mechanically inclined, you may do more harm than good tearing into it yourself. If you are mechanically inclined, but just don't know the terminology, get a repair manual(Chilton or Haynes) they will give you a step by step on the repairs and they have a troubleshooting section. The coil(on my '99 anyway) is located on the front of the engine on the passenger's side(follow the wire from the center of your distributor, it goes to the coil) and the TPS in on the throttle body.

I would have to agree with Timberwolf. No one really intends to say mean things to each other. We all want to help when we can. I think DAKJOCK is just displaying the frustration many of us feel when we have to decipher a question because it's asked in an incoherent way or when we have to explain our explanations of procedures to try. If you really want to learn how to fix your truck, you need to try this:
1. When you ask for help, proof read your question before you submit it. We can't help if we don't understand the question.
2. Don't jump around all over the place, start 1 thread and stick to it. Opening a new thread everytime you have a new question is just creating clutter.
3. Buy a repair manual for your truck. If you can't afford it, go to your local library. Many libraries have repair manuals in the reference section.
4. If you don't know how to spell a word or don't understand a word, you can look it up. While you have your browser open on the internet, if you hold down the "Ctrl" key and press the "N" key, a new browser window will open. type in www.dictionary.com in the URL line (this is the address line near the top of the page on internet explorer and next to the search button on Netscape. This will allow you to look up words or check their spelling. Yes, you can have many windows open at the same time. You're only limited by your computer's resources and your connection speed.
Finally, if you just need to know how things work, go to this website for starters:

I think what they are saying is that it appears that you have so many problems at this point that it would be much easier on you to find a trustworthy mechanic to get your truck going and then if you have a problem later on, post it and i'm sure there are plenty of dakota owners that would be more than happy to help.All the help your getting now is only going to get you more confused.

FU--K EVERYONE because all im asken is a little advice...but no some people on this site is a butch of monkeys running around doesnt know there ass from a hole in the ground ...thanks for no help at all ps.. iam 59 years od i delieve i can to a little mechanic work but the problem was i didn't know were the part was... so i hope everyone on here tryed to help me out with comments.... ttrucks burn up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mforren, you need to calm down...a lot! Some people have said mean things to you but, I don't think they're really bad people. Like I explained earlier, we can't help you if we can't understand the question. And your last couple of posts haven't cleared anything up. ok ok please help my spark plugs are covered in gas would the prodlem be its not firring right because when i take the plug out and check the firring its got just a little red spark i'v changed everything would there be any othe thing i would have to check or did someone have the same problem to help me out hows that

You said that you're getting a very weak red spark? Are you testing it buy pulling the sparkplug and holding it again the block with the plug wire attached and cranking the engine? Did you put new plug wires in because it was doing this or some other problem? Have you tried switching the plug wire with one that fires right or are all of your plugs firing weak? Have you swapped plugs with another cylinder? Does the engine even start?

mforred , first of all sounds like the plug you are testing the #8 is not firing because it is fouled , if the rest of the plugs are firing and have a good spark then sounds like you have a fouled plug that is not working properly due to the gas covering you talked about . if you have changed the plug and wire and it still continues to foul the plug and cover in gas sound like you either have a bad fuel injector or possible the computer is sending the wrong signal to injector , may be time to take it to the garage and have the injector pulse and injector checked .

sounds like a new 426 with a big azz blower on top needs a good home and would love to kick your old motor out of it:) i agree with ya on the fuel inj. motors, i can caress a nice carb motor, but still learning on these injected ones.
You gotta ask yourself one question...That Thing Got A HEMI???

mforren, Have you taken plug number 8 and plugged it into another wire to see if it fires good in another position? There are only so many variables here. The sparks goes from the coil to the distributor cap center wire to the rotor to each individual plug wire to the sparkplugs. If every other plug is firing hot but, #8 is not then, your coil, coil wire, rotor and 7 plug wires are good. (Actually, it is possible for your coil to be weak and just that #8 has enough resistance to cause problems but, we'll put that on the back burner for now) However, that does leave the distributor cap, #8 wire and #8 sparkplug as suspect. There could be a defect with the cap at the #8 position, have you inspected it to see if there's any cracking or carbon fouling at #8? You said that you changed wires, was that moving #8 wire to another position or moving another position's wire to #8? You didn't mention whether or not you moved #8 to another position or moved another "good" firing plug to #8. Try these for starters. Good luck!

ye thanks for helping some people r butts.. ye i tryed moving it like that just today it fires good on another even tryed another wire still doing it could it possible be the ignition modular thats what my buddy said but i dont know so any more ideals thanks

What about the distributor cap? Did you inspect the #8 contact to make sure that it's not carbon fouled or damaged? Also look for a crack. Do you own or have access to a multimeter?
