Message: Straight-pipes SUCK. Plain and simple. You should also read the whole post, not just part of it. Being awakened on a college or work night after midnight because some damn punk-azz kids got run outta' town for noise is ridiculous. Straight-pipes are a sorry way to make an engine louder because you're too poor to afford a real exhaust system. Face reality.

Message: Sephiroth just because you have money to put into an exhaust doesn't make you any better than a guy with straights I do agree getting woken up in the middle of the night by someone driving around is annoying but even with a full high flow exhaust system when you get your foot in it it can still wake people up and in my experience if I was you I wouldn't shoot at them bc you never know when its gonna come back and bite you in the ass

Message: I personally think that straights with a cat would be ok. the cat should catch most of the cold air before it gets to the valves but do i have a point saying that heat rizes and it shouldnt really be a problem with cold air rushing into the pipes? and also what is the best flowing low end aftermarket muffler you can buy i have an 02 dodge ram 1500 custom paint and a few bolt on parts you know the thing and id like to upgrade from my cherry bomb turbo it doesnt seem like it helped my power more hurt it.... Btw the best thing to do to get it where your truck sounds louder is to move the pipes to where they come out infront of the back tire this moves the sourse of the sound closer to the cab and if its on the passenger side its pointed right into the windo of the guy next to you at the red light

Message: Reviewing this old thread, it seems there are some misconceptions that should be cleared up. The best flowing sytem is not always the biggest. The important thing to consider in a performance exhaust for a street driven vehicle is maintaining proper exhaust velocity at the valves for good cylinder scavaging at lower rpms.
Ben, I suspect the way your custom exhaust hurt your power is that it is killing your low end power - is this correct ? Did you also go with larger pipes ? Too big of an exhaust ruins that low end scavaging. It is exhaust velocity that is important, more than backpressure.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: Nah i didnt put bigger pipes on it when i put my the turbo on it i just replaced the stock muffler but i just put dual a high flow cat set up and dual cherry bomb elites on it its not too loud just idling but it has a KILLER tone to it and it does get a little louder when you step on it plus you can really tell a difference in the power on the bottom end and it just looks bad as heck with the pipes comming out infront of the back wheels on both sides. Im guessing now im going to save up and buy me a twin screw supercharger or something big for it
