Subject: TPS @ .72v, FOR WHAT? IP: Logged
Message: I did the procedure from Speed Tweaks where you remove the TPS on your 4.7L and drill out the brass inserts and use some washers over the holes to enable adjustment of the TPS to .72v (mine would only adjust to .716v but, that's close enough) at idle. I then reset the PCM and have driven the vehicle about 60 miles so far. What I've noticed is more mild throttle response off idle and a bit anemic at full throttle. So, what is the benefit suppose to be to setting the TPS @ .72v as apposed to the .56v it was set at from the factory?

Message: Not all are at .56v from the factory. The mod is supposed to be to correct a lag in throttle response that some have. Never bothered checking the voltage on mine - didn't have any throttle lag.

Message: I went back to the Speed Tweaks site and read the procedure and purpose carefully. The logic to this adjustment sounds backwards. I never had a stumble in the first place. Of course, I don't usually mash the accelerator to the floor, the 4.7L responds better if you press it to the floor briskly.
I just readjusted the TPS to .60v and then drove home which is about 30 miles. It responded much better through the entire throttle range.
I guess the moral to this story is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Message: My 00 4.7 had throttle lag until I adjusted the TPS to .72v, now there's no lag when the throttle is hammered.

Message: the TPS adjustment, doesn't really apply if you have a manual tranny, and it doesn't stumble anyway, does it?

Message: I still don't see how people have claimed improved response by doing this adjustment. Maybe they don't reset their PCM after adjusting the TPS? If your TPS output was say .65v and you bumped it up to .72v maybe it would create a slightly richer condition at idle and sudden WOT wouldn't cause a stumble almost like having a mini accelerator pump effect.
No, I'm not high, just trying to figure out how people reported an improvement and I hated the results.
HEY TexasTodd! Are you running only your stock auxiliary cooling fan? Do you ever have any overheating problems?
