I know what you guys say about the 180 tstat but my question is, if it makes more power and runs more efficiently than the 160 then why didn't dodge use it? I'm just curious. What could they possibly have gained by using a lower temp tstat, cooler heat?

From what I understand the stock 195 degree thermostat was used to help the engine meet emisions test. The engine is supposed to run better w/the 180.

The stock t-stat is 195. The engine was built for all around average driving. And to pass emissions with flying colors. So C/D isn't to consernd about how much HP they pump out of these puppy's, just good gas mileage and decent performance. That just means that we get to spend more money on aftermarket parts and have fun installing them :)

So, the 180 will be cause for better or less mpg??
Did the removal of the 'hat' and install of pipe help mpg?
BTW, I don't mind my current mpg, but hey, if I can get more out of it, why not.

If you live in a winter climate, the truck will
never warm up enough for you to drive it hard
anyways. You will always be in the cold zone
(out of ideal operating temperature). Your gas
mileage could become very poor.
Thats why short trips and winter driving are
such gas guzzlers.
I would think a cold stat would be relevant in:
high heat areas.
racing.
extended towing applications.
summer vehichle driving only.
guys who wanna blow 20 bucks.
