Subject: Need Help, won't start and hold idle IP: Logged
Message: 1998 3.9L, about 88,000 miles. Runs fine until tonight, I get in and turn the key, nothing but clicks, lights work fine, radio fine, etc. Nothing but clicks. Jump the battery, engine starts, but won't hold idle. Dies immediately upon release of pedal. Get it going with the jump, hold gas on, drive about a mile, idle holds, shut off, won't restart, back to clicks. Now if it was just the starting problem, I'd call it a bad battery, but a bad battery should cause the idle not hold --- would it?

Message: bad battery, if you drive for a mile the alternator charges even a bad batterey slightly. but it dosent hold the charge thus not having the power to turn over. if thats the stock battery, then its more than likely gone. i replaced mine at 46,000 because after sitting for a day or 2 it would crank real slow.
p.s post in the v6 board to avoid flaming..
v8 guys are territorial (no offense) :-)

Message: yeah good point 00R/T CC when i replaced my battery i bought a higher cranking amp batterey (duralast gold 700 cold cranking amps 900 cranking amps) it seems to turn over alot faster than it did when the stocker was new.

Message: here is a hint...if your battery did die then your trucks computer might have to learn it's idle again...this happened to me a few days ago...I just drove it around for a while using both feet to keep it running at the lights...about 30 min. did the trick for me.
