Message: Why is it I always see ya'll putting 180 degree thermo. instead of 160?

Message: I put the 180 in mine. I think the main two things that it boiled down to was, after reading all the threads, location of the vehicle, whether or not you raced it. Some people lived in a lot warmer climate therefor the 160 was ok vs the opposite. And the other had to do with racing and how hot the engine was getting with all the mods and so forth. Thats my summary.

Message: At 160, the PCM may trip the "Check Engine" light due to a "Engine too cold too long" situation. Plus, many other engine builders/tuners have tested the Magnum engines with different t'stats in them and the 180 is the optimum for performance (actually runs at 185).
