Message: My Truck....
99 Dak V8 5.2 SLT 3.55 approx 80K
My Problem....
Under torgue after motor warms up I have severe valve chatter/rattle.
My Solutions??????
Is there a way to have the stock PCM adjusted for timing in order to get the valve rattle a little more controlable? OR, Would purchasing the Mopar Performance PCM help with this matter? Cay you adjust for timing better with the Performance PCM? Anyone with the PCM please respond with comments, I would like to get some feedback on this.
Thanks

Message: the perfornamce pcm would prolly make it worse as it advances the timing even more. does your engine burn oil? (not smoke just use oil) if so it may be the intake belly pan gasket if no oil burning, try a colder plug and/or 180* thermostat.
also, higher octane fuel will help.
another note you can retard the timing by playing with the crank sensor but check the belly pan first as retatding the timing would make your truck a dog...
more info on belly pan tsb here: http://www.speedtweaks.ca/tipsandtricks.php
i don't really know the crank sensor mod, i would like to do it but can't find any clear info.
hope i helped

Message: Crank sensor mod is easy. Check the KRC site, instruction there. If not post back here, I'll walk you through it.
As for the 'rattle' likely that it's low octane, you MUST use premium with the Mopar PCM. You could probably have it reflashed to reduce timing but that defeats the purpose of having it in the first place.
Good luck.

Message: No 00r/t cc, I think you mis under stood. I dont have the performance PCM. I was thinking about getting it to cure the valve rattle. But after reading some posts, I am going to do the vaccuum/pressure test on the intake first before I make any large purchases.
Any more suggestions?

Message: 00R/T CC,
Sorry, I dont know why I spelled "misunderstood" the way I did...Yes i'm sure it's the valves. Very hard sound to identify at first, but then took it to a few shops and they confirmed.
