Message: Well boys it has already started its pretty sad when you have to go head to head with your own kind but some guy had just took shipment on this ram its temp tag was for today. Needless to say he needs some driving lessons. I just slammed her to the floor and let it ride and he did the same but the OL R/T came through. With all these special trucks and cars coming out I am sure this is only the start. Oh well I can always buy more mods.

Message: Metal,
What exactly were you racing against? Was it a Hemi Ram? 4dr or 2dr? 4wd or 2wd?
I'm a little lost here. What are you calling a rumblebee? Is that a Hemi?

Message: Ram 1500 Rumble bee its a hemi ram regular cab nothing special just a paint job. Anyway TIM sorry you have to Flame but its dosn't change what happened tonight. I still came out ahead. Whiplash I have been reading a lot of post about how bad your truck shifts and how the 46re sucks you should look into a performance valvebody man I am thinking about the fastman kit but my truck is shifting sweet right now. I have learned on thing let your truck warm up before you get on it or the tranny will hang between 3rd and Overdrive but other than that it shifts sweet.

Message: Metal,
What do you have for a trans kit? Is yours stock?
Man, I have a 1993 Caprice Classic with a 305 and a 4spd auto and it shifts firmer than this thing. You would swear this transmission came out of a Cadilac. It shifts smoother than anything I've ever owned. I guess most people would consider that a plus.

Message: I am stock right now I firmed up my shifts pretty good by adjusting the kickdown linkage on the throttle body it was hit or miss but once you get it right the tranny will kick alot harder and it will be better on it too I bearly have any overlap but I am still gonna get a performance valvebody when the cash is there. Try adjusting the kickdown though and I think you will get much more positive shifts, if its too tight it will unload into overdrive to soon and you will know but just go from there and you will get it.

Message: I may tinker with that this weekend. I'll be under the hood anyway replacing the spark plugs, stat, and fan belt. After I drive about 30 miles and come to an idle it sounds like a bunch of crickets under the hood. The belt looks to be dry cracking. I hope replacing the belt stops all the chirping noises. It's really getting on my nerves.

Message: My brother in law has that tranny in his 2000 Ram behind a 318.
Adjusting the Townshift cable is touchy as heck.
Th tranny took a dump a few months ago. We dropped it and the front bushing in front of the pump spun in the pump housing tearing it and the torque converter shaft up. It was poring fluid out the front seal bad.
He bought a full rebuild kit and a shift kit. We got into it and I took apart the clutch packs. Hardly any wear. The only thing wrong was the front pump. But he bought the kits. We removed the valve body and I was going to do the shift kit. This kit he bought (forgot the name) sucked. It showed numberous possible styles of valve bodies and wanted you to drill several different size holes. We would have had to go buy a drill index kit just to do the shift kit. He decided to leave it stock. We just put a new pump and converter on it and it's ok now.
I just wanted to give you a heads up on the shift kit nightmare.
BTW, the valve body in those looks like it's built up from a old 904/727 technolodgy with the OD section and lockup added. I've done 904/727 tranny's. They are easier to do shift kits to.

Message: Graph,
I've done 2 727 build-ups myself. I used the B&M rebuild kits. I wonder if the clutch disc are interchangeable. I really liked how the B&M parts held up.
It's going to be difficult to check anything where I'm at this weekend because it's supposed to rain all weekend. Never fails, every time I make mods it rains.

Guess you still don't know the R/T came with a different motor.
You know the little vehicle sticker on the side window clearly states that!

Message: RT is a bit different from a styling package. You can't get the 5.9 in a RC or CC without the RT package. It also adds 9 1/4 3.92 antispin, lowered suspension, sway bars, 17 in rims, and the HD cooling package.

Message: Metalgreen,
I adjusted my kickdown. I think I went too far....
I'll move it back a little tomorrow. It kicks down about right, but it is too slow to shift out at part throttle. It still shifts into 3rd too soon. I've never driven a 727 that didn't and the 46re is basically the same. That's what worries me the most about doing a shift kit. Every 727 shift kit I did made the problem of shifting into 3rd too soon worse and made the problem of not kicking down worse. The shifts were firmer, but the transmission was more dissfunctional. This trans is reminding me more and more of the 727.
They fixed all these querks when they made the 45re.

Message: Wiplash, what did you use to adjust your kick down? Did you bend the bracket? I need to adjust mine so it WILL kick down, I had to jerry-rig it to fit my S/C? It needs to pull tighter or get shortened. Any help would be appreciated.

Message: Look at the bracket the cable feeds through on the manifold. There is a black plastic square housing around the end of the cable tube where it fits into the bracket. Just behind the metal braket is a white plastic clip that snaps over the square black plastic housing. This clip is what adjust the cable. The clip has a tang on the top and bottom side. I used a small screw driver to release the bottom tang and my finger to release the top tang. Then just pull the clip back. You will see the cable inside the square black housing. It has teeth going the length of it. On the inside of the White clip there is an oposing set of teeth.....
Just remove the clip and pull slightly on the cable until all the slack is gone. Then put the clip back on and you are done. There is supposed to be a little slack in the cable, but I don't remember how much it is. If it shifts too early or hangs between shifts at part throttle you will have to give it a little more slack.
Hope that helps.
