How do i tell which rearend I have? I dont know if its the 3.55 or the 3.92. I just bought it used and the dealer didnt know.

There should be a small metal tag held on by one of the bolts that holds the differential cover. It has the gear ratio stamped on it. Also, count the number of bolts holding the cover on. 12 bolts = 9.25" rear. 10 bolts = 8.25" rear.

also, check the white sticker in the bottom of the glove compartment. or the window sticker if you have it.

No metal tags is a definate sign that it has had the cover off before. But, you can still figure it out pretty easy. Just jack the rear end up off the ground and put the truck in neutral. Get a piece of chalk and put a mark on the tire closest to the floor. Now put a mark on the driveshaft. Turn the wheel over by hand one full revolution and count the number of turns the driveshaft makes. If it turns 3-1/2 times to the wheel's one turn you have 3.55's. If it turns almost 4 turns to the wheels one turn you have 3.92's.

Good suggestion for telling which gears; but some didn't come with metal tag - mine has a sticker on the axle tube instead.

I was just joking. Everything about my truck is in a sealed white sticker under the hood. That and I have ten bolts in the differentials. See I want to go to 3:92's even though I'll lose some mileage, but saving up for TWO differentials (4x4) is the kicker! Anybody wanna' donate to the 'I'm a poor bastard' fund? Hah!

Thanks...i just checked the sticker in the glove box. I have the 3.92 LSD. I figured i had the 3.92 because my first gear is real low. Im lovin this truck so far. Im used to the gas mileage of my 4 banger dak but having twice the power is worth it.
