Subject: Ball Joint Failure on a 2003 IP: Logged
Message: I havent seen this posted on the newer trucks. But I have a upper ball joint failure at 39,000 miles. It started popping noises around 25,000. I have 2003 cc, i thought i read somewhere that dodge had improved the ball joint design in '03?

Message: If I'm not mistaken, there was a recall on this issue for the Dakotas and Durangos. Check with your dealer.

Message: It would be nice if they would take the initiative and take care of these defects. Im taking my Dak in monday to see what the verdict on it is. At least it is worn enough that they wont tell me its within manufacturers specs.

Message: Well took the dak was taken to the dealer on Monday, I was told upper balljoint on drivers side was bad and they were going to replace passenger side as well. Which i think is a good deal, they took the initiative and took care of a future prob as well. I picked up the my truck on wensday nite and it was done with a total cost of $379.51!! Sounds cheap? i thought so. both sides for such a low price. of course this was under warranty. Today i looked at the work they did and found that they had drilled out the old rivets and replaced just the balljoint!! Not the whole arm... This must be where all those balljoints went!! Of course it still doesnt have a grease cert, but it is a new balljoint bolted in. When this one fails it will be a easy task to replace next time around.
