Hey guys, I have a 2002 quad cab with 22,000 miles my check engine light came on. The code was p0456. I looked in the service manual it says small leak in the evaporator system. The cap felt a little loose, I tightened it back up, the light stayed on for 4 days so I disconnected the battery. The light came back on 3 days later. Could the cap be bad and is the cap under warranty??

you should try a new cap or have your current one pressure tested. a new cap should be around $5 not sure though..

I got a P0455 code a couple of days ago, searched here and everyone said it was a loose gas cap. What do you know, truck can tell me I forgot to tighten the gas cap all the way. Have to reset the PCM today to see if it fixed it, but the gas cap was loose.
Kind of freaked me out when the check engine light came on. I had just changed the oil and the light popped on when I flew onto the freeway. Thought for sure I was going to look at the oil guage and it was going to read 0. Mini-heart attack to say the least.

Mine did the same thing so I just went to the dealer and bought a new cap for six bucks. The light hasn't come on since.

My 2002 r/t did the same. they told me not to top off the gas tank, and to really tork down the gas cap when putting it back on. your warranty should take of it should you need a new cap.

My 02 Dak started putting out evap code around 14,000 mi. Had it reset at dealer 4x. Last time truck had 30,000 on it and they wanted me to BUY gas cap. I actually had to argue this with the idiot SA. Obviously, it had BEEN a problem and NOW it was out of warranty and they wanted me to BUY part. I won but not before having to see SM. Still haven't gotten refund.
