Subject: need more towing power IP: Logged
Message: Hey all, Ive got a 93 cc, 4x4, 318, auto, and need more boat pulling power ( only 3500lbs). I have a 2000 360 getting ready to go in, but was wondering if there was anything I should do to the 360 before I put it in, (A new cam, for example), and also, should I put the exhaust headers from the 93, since they are a little bigger? Any ideas guys? I mean , the 318 cant even spin the tires. Just feels like I should get more power out of a v8, most hondas and toyotas beat me off the line.
Thanks guys

Message: Slap a Comp Cams XR264R-14 in there, or at least the Mopar Performance Magnum RT cam kit. You will need better valve springs. The HD pushrods are cheap insurance as well. The exhausts from the '92 318 and early '93 318/360's are the ones to get. Naturally, nothing is better for max hp than headers, but the early stockers are awfully good.

Message: There's something wrong with your 5.2 if it won't light the tires. My 92 CC 4x4 auto would light the tires at 30mph if I twitched the steering real hard just as it downshifted into 1st gear. I used to scare little old laddies driving 20mph in 40mph zones. I would get behind them, then I would punch it and change lanes at the same time. It would be downshifting about the same time I was straightning the wheel. The rear tire would light up every time. It would scare the sh!t out of everybody. No one expects a 4wd to light the tires up while rolling at 20-30mph....
Sounds like you need to work on that thing..

Message: The Magnum RT cam is smog certified through 2000. You'd need to use the 360 Ram truck computer. Years? No info on if it makes a difference.

Message: 3500 is only about half at what your truck is rated at. The 5.2 is a great motor, and should make more than enough power to pull that fairly easily. Unless you live in Leadville, CO.
If you're having trouble, you need to look in other areas besides the engine bay first. Gearing? Transmission? Tires?
If Hondas beat you off the line, you probably just neeed to swap gears.
