Subject: 5.2 upgrades, best for money IP: Logged
Message: I hope I am not being repetative here but I have a 99 5.2 5 speed Dak with flowmaster cat back, homebrew intake and relocated IAT sensor. I am looking for some more power and could not deside on what to do next, headers (maybe Gibson), fuel injectors (FMS), or 1.7 rockers. These are all in about the same price range, what is the best money spent.
P.S I was going to do the heat tape thing to the fuel rails too (free)

Message: I would do the 1.7 rocker first from that list. I'd do a throttle body also before I'd do the headers (headers are a good mod though). Your stock injectors will do fine for you at this stage in your mods.
There's no Mopar PCM for your truck but we can get you a flash that will really get that truck rockin and rollin!

Message: I have a 94 5.2. After extensive reading I've decided to install 1.7 rr, CGS air intake, MSD 6a ignition with Taylor wires and a Tri Phase module. Parts are ordered so I have not put them in yet. Later on headers, freeflow cat and cat back exhaust. I'm trying not to spend too much money so I'm going primarily with bolt ons instead of new cam, heads, intakes etc.

Message: Oh yeah, I'm going to get a Mopar PCM also when budget allows. Bill, does Hooker make headers for my 94?

Message: I read on the Gibson web site they quote 40RWHP at 3500rpm and 25RWHP at 2500rpm increase for the 99 5.2 Dak with there Nickle or stainless shorty headers. They do not qualify it with any other mods or operating temp, so I am certain those are absolute best case numbers, but that sounds pretty good anyway. I would be extatic if could get 25RWHP increase best case.

Message: The Hooker headers will fit '94 5.2 auto, but not manual.
1.7 RR make your stock cam (designed for a 1.6 ratio) think it has more lift and slightly more duration than it had. Nice torque booster and horsepower.
Is CGS still making a Gen II cold air intake? I thought they discontinued it?

Message: Bill,
There are still a few CGS systems out there for the genII Dak. CGS and K&N are the only two I know that makes anything for it and the K&N is not really a cold air intake system. Got the CGS from performance combos.

Message: I have the same gears in 4x4. My truck keeps up the newer Dakota R/Ts. But that might be because I have a built 360 under the hood. And I'm using the Compcams towing cam 206/210 .485/.512
