Message: If you remain normally aspirated, I would say yes. I started racing my Dakota in 98 and it was not until the end of last year's racing season that I made it into the 13s. The difficulty is not in the mods themselves. The go fast method for na motors has been around and the same for almost as long as when cars started racing. The difficulty is in putting together complementary mods optimized for the 1/4 for your particular vehicle ... not just motor mods but mods to deal with traction, optimal shifting, etc. Dakotas are trucks which mean lots of weight and very bad aerodynamics. More difficult if it's your daily driver and you have to comply with clean air tests every 2 years.
I personally know of only one reg. cab R/T who made it into the 13s without going into the motor.
Nitrous would be the easiest and most cost efficient way but the odds are that some time, some where, some thing is going to go boom.

Message: Too make it into the 13's with a N/A engine still on the PCM will require MAJOR modifications, but it's not impossible. It would be easier to do with a S/C. I plan to install a Viper 6spd. That and a set of 4.56 gears will be worth at least 1sec maybe 1.5 sec..... A new cam is a prerequisit. The cam in this engine is smaller than the cam on the 5.2L. Also, all the other parts feeding the engine are the same as the 5.2. They are inadequate for the 5.2L. So upgrading the heads, intake, camshft, exhaust manifolds, etc..... will go a long ways to making the 5.9L SING!
Bottom line, the 5.9L is a TRUCK engine more than the 5.2L is. It will never rev as quick as the 5.2 or the 4.7L. It doesn't matter how much torque you make if the engine revs to slow. That is the 5.9's biggest downfall...TOO MUCH RECIPROCATING WEIGHT! If you want a real barn burner, you got to tear this baby down and put real pistons, rods, and crank in there.
I bought an R/T knowing all of this.... If you read my profile, you'll notice my truck is 100% stock. When I bought this thing it was mainly for the looks and the "OOOH" factor. I'm at the point now where I'm either going to keep the truck and make upgrades or sell it.The biggest problem with this truck isn't the engine. IT'S THE TRANSMISSION! The 46re is the worst transmission on earth! I'm still looking for a manual conversion kit. There are some that claim to make a compatible conversion kit, but I can't get them to show me any documentation prooving this.

Message: There are quite a few CC R/T's in the 13's with stock heads&cam and no power adders and lots of bolt on's- most I've seen are in the 13.3-.6 range. One of the guys in my area was ran a 13.09 in a RC R/T with stock heads&cam.
I also reccomend the delphi forum but check out Drag Truck also, look for the times you want to run and see what mods are required, most people don't list everything but it will give you an idea on what works.

Message: Hey, Wiplash, have you checked out www.keislerautomotive.com for 6-speed manuals for Daks? I think MoFinley has his up and running. Keisler installed one behind a 408 stroker, and the last I heard, it was holding up. The Keisler brothers are Mopar specialists; if you have a question, they have an answer when it comes to manual trannies.

Message: Do some more research guys. It's not that difficult to get into the 13's N/A. First you need good traction to prove you can get it into the 13's. Cause if you can't hook it doesn't matter what you can run. But with a few minor bolt ons and NO internal modifications, 13's can be done without too much strain. This is from personal experience.

Yeah, I saw their add. That is one impressive set up. I'm going to contact them. I wondering about the PCM. I'm guessing that you can just dissconect the electronic shift control (servo). That will surely throw a code. I would think that you would have to find a compatible 5.9L manual PCM.
