Check out this link:
http://www.allpar.com/model/ram/dodge/dakota.html

It claims the H.O. 4.7 in the new Dak will only have 250 hp and 300 lbs/tq...what gives? The 02 Jeep H.O. has 265 hp and 325 lbs/tq...a decrease of 15 hp and 25 lbs/tq is rather significant and cannot be accounted for by drive train loss alone due to increase length of the dak, is Allpar misquoting or have the emission nazi's struck again?

I'm gonna guess its because of the extra weight the new Dakota will have....

"250-plus horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. plus of torque"

They don't state the exact horsepower.

Also, weight will only effect performance, not the HP/Torque that the engine produces.

Has DaimlerChrysler released what the weight of the 05 will be?

Mr Heavy,

Weight has NOTHING to do with a motor on a dyno, and the manufacturer gives Motor dyno #'s.

Hey hey hey hey,

This means this 6spd manual, will bolt up to my 01 4.7, with a 5 speed manual.

This could be cool!

OK, I saw it now, it just wasn't highlighted.

But really, a six speed for the 4.7!

The gear ratios in the 6spd they are going to use are horrible. the 6th gear ratio is .78:1 if i remember correctly, thats close to what the nv-3500 is, wheres the benefit. Maybe it just might handle more pwoer which would be nice

I like the addition of the knock sensors...

I don't like the EGR. I'm wondering how the composite intake is going to hold up to hot exhaust gasses being plumbed into it.

It's probably going to be injected right into each of the intake posts in the head. That still sucks sh*t tho. I though we were past the EGR days. Hopefully the vacuum line can be plugged to it without the PCM freaking out. I think some cars have sensors to make sure that P.O.S. is working.

I wouldn't be surprised if the EGR is the reason for the lower h.p. claim. A restricter plate would likely improve fuel economy too, but why do it ? Look at that, Wiplash, we both agree EGR sucks !

Who knows...maybe it has to do with that new intake manifold that people go around ranting about being "better" than the old one, even though there's been no internal comparison of the two.

Who knows...

The new H.O. seems to lack alot of H.O. The standard 4.7 dyno's around 200hp according to several contributers that have posted here. That allready makes 250Hp at the crank and 295ft. lbs of torque!

As the second post on this thread points out (which i at first overlooked) is that it does sya 250-PLUS hp and 300-PLUS lbs/tq...maybe, as in several cases, engines either recieve a slightly higher or lower rating when they are introduced in a different vehicle, i.e. maybe it will rate at 260 instead of 265, or hopefully 270. Allpar probably couldnt get a confirmation of final output for 05 from DC just decided to play it conservatively for accuracy's sake? Let's all hope so at least.

I'd expect EGR to lower power, and Waltherone makes a good point too. There's probably some reason or reasons they're not claiming as high a # as the older Jeep HOs.

The EGR would seem a likely factor to lower horsepower. The Jeep HO engine has always had knock sensors, but they may really be needed with EGR. It would seem to me that adding hot exhaust gas to the induction is a recipe for detonation and/or less power. I agree, GraphiteDak, I thought EGR died with the smog pump. I hope Detroit isn't about to enter another lousy cycle of horsepower reduction for the EPA and CAFE numbers.

The new Dakota is going to have to grow on me. The front end looks decent, but according to the pics, there are no fender flares. I think they add a nice touch. I like the interior a lot. But I think the thing I hate the most is that there is no HEMI available. It's not like it won't fit. Could you imagine a HEMI Dakota R/T with 345 horses?

If you have ever noticed, Dodge always waits a year or two before installing the most powerful engine in a new body style. They sell the new body, and hope the owner will trade it in for more power. So you can buy the latest...or wait for the greatest.

The last model year for the 4.7 HO is 2004. The 2005 model year (for Jeeps) will be the first year of the 5.7 Hemi as the top engine.

The 4.7 remains as an optional engine and no specs have been released on the horsepower output but speculation is that the 4.7 that remains will actually be a slightly detuned HO engine.

Sounds like this Jeep info ties in with the 2005 Dak info on the 4.7.
