Message: I have a 1997 dakota with a 318 and it did the same thing. It turns out that the battery was weak. It had enough juice to start the truck, but not enough to power the computer.
I had no idea what it could be. The truck would run rough when I first started it in the morning. After turning it off then starting it up again it was fine. A few months later the battery totally died. When I put a new battery in, the problem went away... Who would have thought!

Message: I have a 1996 Dodge Dakota V6 Magnum that had the problem of turning over then immediately stalling. It took several attempts to finally get it to run. The problem was the battery wasn't putting out enough volts. From what I understand... the vacuum solenoid works off the battery. If it isn't getting the proper voltage it's going to cut off and cause the stalls. Anyway, I'm no expert, but, I replaced the battery and the truck started right up, held the idle and is working fine.

Message: Davy, If I'm not mistaken the regulator is part of the fuel pump assy. Carter, I think, is the OEM brand.
I guess you're having fuel pressure problems?
And don't be shy about starting a new post. Sometimes these old post are drug up from the past and will get overlooked.
