Subject: ECM Voltage Regulator

Message:
I have heard that the alternator regulator is controlled by the ECU. When I turn on the blinker at idle, the voltage drops each time it blinks. Is this because the ECU takes time to respond? Would it help to put on an external regulator? (It drops with the bass, too, but the blinker is a less extreme example)

Thanks
Alex

No.
Higher capacity batteries and higher output alternators deal with this better (especially if you're running a high-power stereo), but you're going to see a fluctuation because, well, what do you think runs the devices you mentioned? It's gotta come from somewhere. Also, there will always be a momentary lag when load is applied in any sort of mechanical device.
