Message: Just got my truck back, this dealership here in San Juan Capo did a great job. They replaced the rear wheel speed sensor and I mentioned to them about the tcm upgrade. They flashed the pcm, is the tcm flash part of that? I don't think i got the death flash cause all the power is still there and if i am not mistaken is does seem to shift a little better, i shoulda wrote down what rpm a i used to be at 65 on the highway and see what is now...Can anyone out there tell me, I got a pcm flash that ends in the letters "AD". The TSB referred to on my work order is #18-002-03. I read on here that any flash before "AH" is all good and only the "AH" and latter are the death flash. Ayways, hopefully I'll have the install done by this weekend, can't wait.

Message: Pittdawg, I think the "Death-flash" was a PCM flash in the 2001 model year. They probably came out with a newer version of firmware since then but, who knows for sure? As for your TSB, here's the only one that matches that number. It's for a 2002 Jeep Gr Cherokee:
1800203 - FLASH: MIL ILLUMINATION FOR ERRONEOUS DTC P0456 - EVAP MONITOR SMALL LEAK DETECTED
Date: 1/31/03
Model Year(s): 2002-2003
Description: NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO 2002-2003 WJs EQUIPPED WITH THE 4.7L ENGINE (SALES CODE EVA OR EVC). This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with new software.
Details: The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate due to the erroneous detection of a small leak in the vehicle’s evaporative system. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) associated with this condition is P0456 (EVAP Monitor Small Leak Detected.) No system leaks are detected when the evaporative system is tested. The DTC may be intermittent. If MIL is on and Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0456 is present, perform the Repair Procedure.

Message: Another tip for the manifold change is to go to the car wash and clean your engine good the day before the manifold change. The reason for this is because the ports on the heads open straight up to meet the intake runners on the bottom of the manifold and it's pretty easy for junk to fall down into them.
Also, if you already have the TB and manifold, you should change the TB now and drive the truck around for a few days. That way, you can experience the difference the TB makes and the manifold makes separately. Also, it only takes about 15 minutes to change the TB if you don't have the stock air hat and filter box on your Dak.

Message: The "Death Flash" was inflicted on my 2000 4.7 as well, so it's not only a 2001 thing. I think it was anything ending in AH was the bad one. AG or AH, I can't remember now. Mine was only running at most 13 degrees of timing at WOT, you can't argue that that wasn't the death flash :P

Message: Rob C...any updates on how you are liking the new manifold? I still need my pcm to adjust, it has only been about 150 miles, but with the new tb and manifold a definite increase in top end, I'm hoping once the pcm adjusts the low end will come back, it does seem I have lost a little down low

Message: I'm thinking the improvement I got wasn't worth all the hassle that I went through to make the manifold work with my "ancient" 2000. I didn't notice any bottom end loss. It seems to have better power above 5000 rpm but, that doesn't do me much good, after all at WOT the tranny shifts NLT 5300 rpm. Before the Fastman and '04 manifold swap my engine seemed like it was out of steam above 5000 rpm. The combination also seems to have increased the power at part throttle in the mid-range but I can't always reproduce that strong mid-range at part throttle. I also don't really like the way it's constructed, as if Mopar was trying to cut costs to the bone. I especially don't like that the MAP sensor only has 1 screw holding it on. The plastic fittings in place of what used to be brass fittings. I like the Fastman a lot but as for the 2004 manifold, I would only recommend it for someone that had a noticeable mid-range flat spot and considered power above 5000 rpm really important.
What about your pedal vibration? Did you ever bother to trace the throttle cable from the TB linkage to the pedal to see if the cable was touching the engine anywhere? You might try putting some foam insulation on the cable. This might dampen the vibration.

Message: As far as I can tell the cable does not touch the engine anywhere.
Here's the breakdown: When I first got the truck in 2002 no pedal vibration whatsoever. Early 2003 I install h.o. cams, ever so slight pedal vibration at around 3,000 rpms, so slight barely remember noticing but do rember slightly different pedal feel. Late 2003, install fastman tb, terrible pedal vibration. Call fastman, tells me this happens with about 1 out of 10 4.7's but that it tends to reduce quite a bit after about 1,000 miles. Many searches on this website tells me many others with the 4.7 who add an aftermarket tb, fastman or f&b, experience a nasty pedal vibe, some just live with it. After initial 1,000 miles, pedal vibe does lessen somewhat, maybe to about half of where it was at but I am still not happy and return the tb. Re-install factory tb pedal vibe more or less gone, maybe ever so slight feel around 3,000 rpms where I though I may have felt it before any tb upgrade (I do not think I would notice if I wasnt trying very hard to find it). Early 2004, I find out 03's and 04's both regular and h.o. 4.7's recieve a re-designed intake manifold. This sparks my interest and I post pics on this site of the new manifold, demondakota (who probably has the most powerful 4.7 on these boards and often makes insightful comments) suggests that from looking at the opposing runners that the re-design may well have been to address various sin wave/pedal vibration issues that some had with the older manifold. I call and tell fastman about the new manifold and that my guess is that it probably takes care of the vibe. He says he will research it, calls me back a week later and tells me his dealer confirms the new manifold addresses the pedal vibration.
Where I am at now: I installed the fastman again for the second time but now with the new 04 manifold. Pedal vibration is still there but not nearly as pronounced as with the older 02 manifold. Furthermore, if it cuts down even more after 1,000 miles like was the case before, then it would be very acceptable, as it is right now it is not too bad but definately not as smooth as stock. As far as performance gains, still to early to tell, the first time I had the tb I only felt slight gains at upper rpms until about 500 or 600 miles then the low end came on strong with quite a bite, I'm hoping this happens again with the new manifold, so far it feels pretty similar to before, mostly upper rpm gains, I am a bit concerened the new manifodl may not provide great the low end the old one did. Only time will tell. Sorry for the long post.
