Message: well to start the story off i started the HO cam swap. Pulled the drivers side cam out and thats when we noticed that Mopar packed the cams wrong. right part number wrong cam. so we put it back together and started it up well the cam pin broke and the truck jumped time. so i tore it down again and replaced the cam and thought it was top center wrong, so i tore it down again last night to find the timing was 180 out on the drivers side cam. Got it all back in time and still would not run right. did a compression test and had 0 on 1 and 3 cyls 150 on 5 and 125 on 7. Now i got to pull the heads on this bitch cause i got atleast 2 bent valves can anyone help on this

Message: Chris, the cam pins on the 4.7's are very soft.
When you put the sprocket on, you have to
have somebody hold the cam with a vise
grips. The pin is very soft, if the vise grips guy
is not applying the correct pressure, the pin
will deform and your timing will be off. And
your right about this site. Good Luck

Message: What kind of help are you looking for Chris ? It sounds like you know what you have to do. I was sent one wrong cam too - anyone doing this mod, be advised the cams are different lengths. If they send you two cams that are the same length, one is wrong. Don't bother taking anything apart until you have the right cams. Off the top of my head, I think one is about 18", the other is about 19".

Message: Yikes, the description of holding the cam with pliers while tightening the cam bolt scares the crap out of me!
The reason DC provides a tool to hold the cam is so you don't break the cam pin. If you use the DC tool, the twisting force is absorbed by the cam gear and countered by the tool (either through the timing chain or directly on the gear itself depending on which side you are working on). If you use the pliers method, all the twisting force on the cam gear is applied against the pin so it breaks or deforms and breaks sometime later. The proper tool is like $50. Pretty cheap insurance if you ask me. The pliers method is just looking for trouble.

Message: Hey DakUSA,
I had a very similar problem. See the messages I've posted about my about my problems.

I only lost one valve and it took about a year to fail. But i don't think the valve in cyl 1 was ever completely right since the replacement cam was put in. It made a small ticking noise the whole time. The good news is that after the head was pulled and the vavle and rocker replaced, the truck now runs REALLY GOOD !!! Really smooth and really fast !!! Hope you get yours straightened out !!!
