Message: looking at a 1998 4x4 cc V8, with 67,000 miles. when i put it in reverse it "clunked" a little. I know a guy who has an older dodge, and his clunks, but what about the newer ones ? any suggestions ?

Message: If it's clunking right when you put it into gear, I would check the U-Joints. That's probably the most common cause.

Message: If that checks out, it's a well-known fact that the ring and pinion will "clunk" once they wear a bit. You can counter this to some degree with a heavier lube oil.
