In case any of you have run across this and can shed some light. About 1000 miles ago I noticed a slight rumble noise at highway speeds, then about 200 miles later a minor gear whine right at 60mph then after another 200 miles a howling at highway speeds and vibration at 10-20 mph similar to running over rumble strips. Noise and vibration is noticed only on deceleration, not noticeable accelerating, and is related to road speed not engine speed (driving in neutral has no effect). Howl and low speed rumble quickly became more and more severe and I took it to dealer before the warrantee ran out. To my untrained ear it appeared to be in the front. First time in, the dealer blames the tires, put new Michelins on with no effect (I’m not surprised but who am I to complain, they usually take the easy way out?). Wouldn’t you know it, before I returned it to the dealer the howl and rumble started to come and go, it now appears to take 10 miles highway speed to start, but it still can be severe. The vibration can be felt up through the chassis and into the petals and steering wheel. The dealer has been having some difficulty repeating it, has replaced a rear drive shaft. Any ideas out there? .

Message: A howling noise that is consistent with road speed and is worse on deceleration I usually equate with a problem in a differential.

Message: Yositimy, you're very very luckey it was just a
bad "U" joint. Your also luckey it didn't happen
after 36000 miles.
Chrysler loves to prolong repairs to beat you out
of your hard earned money.
Stick with that dealer.. They seem to be a lot
more honest than most.
