Message: It's gonna suck. It's a nearly 4,000 pound vehicle, with a V8, and about as aerodynamic as my garage. And you can't seem to do much about it. That's just the way it is. However, it's a great truck, I don't care, and I just smile every time I fill the tank.

Message: My 5.2 gets 10 miles to the gallon, however i drive with a VERY heavy foot. Im not saying i go speeding around like fast and the furious honda civics and cut people off, but everytime i leave a light i put the pedal to the floor and just slow down once its to fast, and i keep doing this over and over (without even noticing) the only reason i always romp on it is because with the windows down and the back window open i just cant deny the sweet sound of the v8 roarin through the exhaust and headers. Not to mention the squeal of the supercharger;). I am sure that if i baby'd it and just kept it under 3,000 rpm's i would see much better gas mileage. trust me, once you drive it you will know what i mean and you will not care about gas mileage anymore. This is coming from a broke ass dakota owner (only because i dumped all my money into my truck). I found that if you put 10 dollars in the tank it gets you about 70 miles. Having less gas causes you to use your truck more moderatly, thus, saving gas. Plus it takes off a little weight!

Used to get 10-11 city and 15-16 interstate
Now with a 360 Air Intake and a Dynomax Ultra Flo I get over 13 city and over 18 interstate. Quite a difference those 2 mods made on the mileage.

I hadn't reset my trip computer in the course of about 6000 miles. It read 12.4 mpg. I'd have to guess that it was probably 80% short trips.

My fuel milage was getting worse and worse down to about 14-15 on average. I recently got the intake and injectors serviced (magic 3 bottle chemical treatment, dealer only stuff) and put a little taller tire on (265/70 16 vs 235/75 15) and got a solid 19 mpg on a long trip with some hills. I was pretty impressed.

I've only freed up the exhaust and intake so far and I still average around 15-18mpg w/o the trailer 12-14 with. If anyone knows any other tricks to bring that up a little post it.

Message: Just curious,
Does any of you with really bad gas mileage have a shake at highway speeds at around 65mph-75mph. And on long distances sometimes it feels like the car is gonna shake apart?
My gas mileage dropped dramatically. I have a 5.9 Durango. Was gettin 15-17 mpg on the highway, i was getting 10-12 mpg after about 52k miles.
What the problem was for me was my torque convertor. New torque convertor because of a bad shudder, which is the vibration i'm describing above. Now, I'm gettin 17-18mpg again.
Just wanted to share my experience.

aftermarket cai and high flow cat to a single glasspack ,loud as f
without the muffler tip. lol. i once heard if you put all the original
stuff that doesn't let it breathe that much will cause it to get better
mpg's but not as many horses. kind of like not letting a vacuum run
with your hand over the end of the hose. hp's are different than
mpg's. oh well.
