There have been several write-up recently. 400hp is an easy goal for a good streetable 318. 360 LA heads with 2.02 intake valves, or Magnum heads. MP M1 or Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap intake. Roller rockers. 800cfm Edelbrock carbs. Cams in the .480 lift range. Headers. It really doesn't take much to make 400hp.

Thanks. Just tryin' to help out. I wish I'd had (back in my youth) a tenth of the resources available now. Hell, there wasn't even a public internet when I was guessing my way through my first 318 build. Missed my calling, but I know I still have a lot to learn.

Tell me about it. I'd given anything to have had the resources we have today back in 1993. I had to make everything or pay some one to make a roller camshaft. I still want more.....

Any LA or Magnum small block, naturally, the 360 is the easiest to get to 300hp (a 408 would be saaweeeeet!). What you need to decide is by what means do you intend to make 300hp. Are you gonna go carb? Stock TBI (NOT!)? Magnum MPI?
