IP: Logged

Message:
ive had o2 simms on my 2002 r/t for a year and they worked fine but now all of a sudden my engine light keeps coming on. i tried disconnecting the simms and reconnecting them and the light still comes on. i get a 2 codes... one that says my downstream o2 sensor voltage is high on bank # 1 and another code with the same message except for bank # 2. so can anyone tell me wat i can possibly do to fix this problem and if i run the truck like this can it cause any damage?

If the simm itself has failed, it shouldn't cause any damage. I know Chrysler is the 1st N.A. car manufacturer to tie the signals from the rear o2 sensor(s) in with the front o2 sensor(s) to help maintain a stoich mixture but I haven't seen anything that they did it on the trucks, especially with the 5.2L/5.9L engines. However, running it this way, you never know if a legitimate problem has arisen unless you own a scanner to read the codes frequently.

It's possible (I personally haven't read of it though) that the simm has failed or maybe the front sensors' response times have slowed enough from use/age to get out of acceptable range with the rear signals. I see that fastman says that the box should last at least 200K miles which suggests to me that failure is possible for whatever reasons. Having a circuit box out in the harsh environment has its risks no matter how well protected it is.

Have you tried contacting fastman to see what he thinks? Good luck!
