Since I have an R/T, my parts list is easier to come buy than the 4.7L. Here's what I'd do:

1) R/T cam, 25hp @ $150.00....... lets say 12hp
2) M1 2bbl, 25hp @ $300.00........lets say 12hp
3) 1.7 rockers, 10hp @ 300.00.....lets say 5hp
4) PCM, 15hp @ $350.00............lets say 7hp
5) GibsonHeaders, 25hp @ $400.00..lets say 12hp
6) rlr timing chain, 2hp @ $75.00.lets say 1hp
7) AEM cool air, 10hp @ $300.00...lets say 5hp
8) cat/back ex., 5hp @ $300.00....lets say 2hp
9) throttle body, 10hp @ $300.00..lets say 5hp
10) alum. heads, 30hp @ $1,500.00.lets say 15hp
total dollars...........3,625.00
total hp gain(maybe)....76RWHP

NOT!!

So for $4,000.00 and many hours of labor you can bolt on 76RWHP.

WAIT!!!!!!!!!!

A S/C runs around 4-$4,500.00 and makes 100RWHP.

Just bolt on a POWERDYNE....DUH!

Fastdak and stupidcharger,
First of all the 380hp crate engine won't work on the PCM and it is about $3,800.00. The HP figures for these engines are in Brake HP not SAE. Convert the cheaper 300hp engine to the SAE and it has about the same HP as the engine already in the R/T. Also, those HP numbers are using HEADERS with open exhaust and no accessories. Therefore you still have to add the free flow exhaust and the $400.00 set of headers. Also, neither of these crate engines have ALUMINUM heads. The $3,800.00 for the upgrades I listed included the Aluminum heads and will put out more HP to the rear wheels than the crate engine.

With a Powerdyne SC you can have your cake and eat it to for the same amount of money and a lot fewer labor hours.

Lets see, going with your logic lets add it all up

crate engine..............$3,800.00
M1 MPI intake................300.00
Headers......................400.00
PCM..........................350.00
total......................$4,850.00

A new S/C will cost about $500.00 less than that.
The upgrades for the N/A engine already in the R/T will cost $1,000.00 less than the crate engine. Leave off the Aluminum heads and the cost for all the boltons to the original engine is $2,500.00 less than a crate engine and it will make more HP.

You failed to realize you still have to have a PCM, MPI M1 intake, and Headers. That's over $1,000.00 of the cost right there. Just swapping out long blocks isn't going to make any more HP. You have to have the entire package.

OK, I just saw where they offer the 300hp crate engine with the MPI M1 intake for $3,350.00. It still has to have headers to make the advertised 300hp. It even says that on the web site. That's ove $500.00 for the mopar headers and over $400.00 for the Gibsons. That puts you right back at the $3,850.00 mark. You still don't have the Aluminum heads. Add a minimum of $1,500.00 extra to the $3,850.00 300hp crate engine and you are over $5,350.00.

That will pay for a SC with an intercooler. The intercooled SC will put well over 350hp to the rear wheels. The best you will do with the 300hp crate engine is 250hp at the rear wheels. The SC wins again.
