Subject: PING! IP: Logged
Message: I am getting pinging in my 98 5.2 70,000 miles. It does not ping when the engine temp is cold. Only when it warms up fully I get pinging under load. If it was the belly pan gasket, wouldnt it ping even when cold. I dont know what else to look at to stop the ping?

Message: The belly pan gasket would have to be essentially blown to cause a ping when cold, and it probably wouldn't run by then. Best bet is that gasket. Look down into the throttle body. If you see an oily soot on the floor of the intake, you go a leaker. Remember to take a bright flashlight with you. If the gasket checks out, you may have injectors that are sticking. The over-the-counter injector cleaners really can't clean out these hard deposits. Go for the gasket first.

Message: Ok well back this summer, i had the same problem, everyone said it was the gasket... i checked down the throttle body, there wasn't any oil, i mean it was kinda dirty, but from what everyone was saying it would be like you dumped oil in there... so i decieded last week to dump some 93 octane in there, and iv tried my hardest to get it to ping... if the gasket was blown, would it ping with any octane gas... and if not, what could it be, because i really don;t wanna run 93 if i don;t have too.... o yea i go through a quart of oil every 1500 miles (Mobil 1) at that....
any help would be great
