Subject: Tires: '00 Quad Cab - 4.7L IP: Logged
Message: I need to buy new tires for my Dakota, but am having trouble deciding what to buy.
My Dakota is a stock 4x2 Quad Cabe, 2000 model. The tires that came with it are the Goodyear Eagle LS 255/65R15. After checking with my local Discount Tires, they want $150 per tire, without mounting and balancing. I checked with TireRack.com and they are selling the same tire for $102, not mounted or balanced. It seems as though Pirelli has a tire that matches that size called the Scorpion. Does anyone have an opinion or facts about that tire?
My question is are there other tires out there that will give me a comparable ride to the Goodyear that are not as expensive? I have seen that there are two other sizes listed as optional for the Dak. One is the 235/75-15. Does anyone have experience with this tire? How does it make the truck ride? Grip? I rarely drive off-road and then it's only in areas where you don't need a 4x4. I drive mainly on the highway and to work (40 mile round trip).
Any suggestions on another tire?

Message: The Scorpion Zero is an excellent tire. In 255/65-15 it is "only" H rated as it is XL construction. The means it is made for a higher payload such as the 2000 lb package on the 4X2. Most of the other Scorpion Zeros (except for 1 other size) are all V rated.
I have the 255/60-15 Scorpion Zeros on my 97. Just wore them out with about 40K on them. Not too bad for a V rated tire.
Tires handle great in the dry and the rain. Haven't tried them off road or in snow so I can't coment there.
I like them enough that I just ordered another set, this time 255/65-15 for the 97. They are on back order so it will take a few weeks.
If I could afford it I would also put these on my 01 but for now I will use the OEM Goodyear Wranglers and wear them out. (iIf I had the stock Invictas I would replace them now, those are pure crappola I replaced those on the 97 at 10K)
I recommend these tires for on road use. They do have some of that 4X4 tire noise though. Wish they were a little quieter at times.

Message: On my last truck a '98 Ford I put Wrangler AT/S tires on that and I could go alot of places that people in 4x4's were and I was definatelly getting odd looks when people found out my truck was only 4x2 the tires on the road sounded really good no loud whining like some off-road tires have and there wasn't any tire wear. BFG's are also supost to be nice tires although I have never had/tried any.

Message: Jason,
You can fit 275/60/15's on your truck with no rubbing. I put these on my 2000 QC. You can see a pic on the viewer's ride page #9, bottom right corner. I went with BFG Radial TA's. Got them through Sears at about $80 each. I got them to comp their price with the Wal-Mart across the street. The difference in circumference is too small to detect in the speedometer, something like 7 feet in each mile. Since the tires are wider, I added the Mopar fender flares ($260 set)- the tires gave me a good excuse to get that past the Mrs.

Message: I used 275-60/15' s Goodyear RH from Discount Tire. They are the same size in the diameter, but about 1/2" wider. They were $72 each.

Message: Would my dak look funny if i upgraded the rear tires to 255-60/15's? I have 235-60/15's all around now. Tires are new but i just need more traction.
