Subject: 4.7 performance mods

From what I've heard its pretty hard to get much more power out of the 4.7 than how it comes stock. I've heard it has pretty darn good and free flowing exhaust and intake manifold. What about the intake? Has any body only bolted on an aftermarket intake with no other modifications and experienced a powerGain?

No IMO you really have to do the 4.7 as a package. Exhaust intake all or none. If you are looking for more hp without much anything else then get your PCM flashed.

If you dont have emissions testing where you live and arent afraid to cut it out then go ahead. It will be significantly louder. I have a flowmaster 40 series single in dual out and its pretty loud but thats what I wanted. For me it gave me a noticable gain in the higher rpm range (3000-5000).

There is a lot of information here, but the mods are under different search titles. Put "4.7" in front of air intake, IAT, exhaust, PCM flash, HO cams, HO intake, throttle body, etc.

the best gain on a 4.7 would be a 75 shot of nitrous.we have a test truck in my Hot rod class out off all the bolt ons and programmers the nitrous proved to be the best it even beat out the super charger. we got an avrege of 83 hp in 4 pulls, third gear automatic tranny at the wheels the throttle boddy gained about 40 @ the wheels but did not pass emmisions.

The other problem with nitrous is that the power is not always there - you continually use it up and have to refill the bottle. I want my power on the street, all the time.

I'm not sure about how the '05 comes; but 4.7's have some combination of two precats before the y in the pipe and/or one cat close after the y.

Kowalski. Was that (old post) yours before you were a member? LOL!

Oh and my 4.7 had only one large cat. I WISH it had the dual precats so the duals would have been easier. I had to buy TWO new cats when I did my duals.

DakotaJeff. I have a used 4.7 i bought that was damaged from not changing the oil, etc. Had nearly 100k

The cyclinder walls are like new still. Similar to the older long running 318's, there is absolutely NO ridge on the top and the cross hatches are STILL there!

I plan on just fixing the bottom end and cleaning it up with new rings and it's gonna get installed in a car.

Yupper. Actually between memberships - before that I poststed using another name, but a bunch of folks got pissed at me for complaing about a problem I had with their hero "Bernd". Then after I changed it, a whole lot of folks got burnt by Bernd, and he is no longer here...

And yes Dave, the big one's your muffler.

I think the new 05's come with a resonator which is what one of those is. One's a cat, one's a muffler, and one's a resonator. I don't know if it has the y-pipe precats or not though.

Hard ass KMs... that my 4.7 is still running great... I have yet to change my spark plugs...
I live in Yellowknife North West Terretories and the temp drops to -45c quite often... yet my old stud Leroy always fires up... I had a little knock on cold start up, but upgrading the synthetic brand of oil fixed it... Great truck...perfect engin... I love it. I work and play with my beast... and he treats me very well.

I have done some other searches and found some guys that have removed the Muffler (big and round). Some have replaced it with straight pipe, others with an aftermarket muffler. Everyone seems to be happy, noone has gone back. I wouldnt want to change the torque, but would like to get another mpg and maybe a growl to go with it?

so im curious as to why you need three set of cats.. i have a 2003 4.7l v8 and was told to remove the cats would cut back on all my back pressure..is that just gobbly-gook? or is there truth to that...? unless back pressure isn't as important as i thought..?
