Message: So it has been established '03's came with a revised h.o. intake, 04's another slight revision. I wanna seet if these revisions added power or just smooth things out a bit. I beleive stock auto 4.7's 2000-2002 put out around 180-190rwhp. Let's see what y'all pull.

Message: Has it actually been established that the '03 has a revised HO intake ? I heard that the regular 4.7 has the same intake as the HO and everyone seems to have jumped to that conclusion; it could also be that the HO motor is now being built with a regular intake. Does anyone really know ?

Message: Kowalski-
Starting in '03 both the h.o. and standard 4.7 have the same intake manifold. This manifold appears to be a revised version of the an '02 h.o. manifold. In addition, the 2003 version has been further revised in 2004. Only a dc engineer could tell you exactly what those revisions adressed, but from my research I believe they accomplished two things:
1) included both short and long runners to
improve the high-end horsepower of the
standard pre-'03 intake manifold and
simultaneously keep the desirable low-end
torque which the '02 h.o. manifold eliminated
2) reduce pedal vibration (which is fairly
common among the 4.7's when an aftermarket tb
or cai is installed)
The following link explains it the best.
http://www.wjjeeps.com/ho_engine.htm
Finally, follow the link by the picture of the 02 and 04 manifolds where it says "WJ Manifolds"
(http://www.wjjeeps. com/manifold.htm).
This link actually depicts the physical differences. It appears the newer manifolds utilize long and short runners whereas the older manfiolds only utilized one type of runner (short ones for the h.o. and long ones for the standard, or is it vice versa i forget). Very interesting stuff though, I am really interested in purchasing the 04 manifold. Any dc techs out here that can tell me whether my analysis is correct, I sure think so.

Look at the 02 vs. the 03-04, on the 02 all the runners (i think thats what those center tubes are) are the exact same length and curve, on the 03-04 the runners tradeoff every other one is long while the next one is shorter. See what I'm sayin?

Message: They probably staggered the intake runners in order to stop the shock wave in the plenum (which was part of the pedal vibration). That would be my guess. And no, they don't have two different runner lengths. There are 8 runners, one for each cylinder. If there were two runner lengths for each cylinder, the manifold would have 16 total runners flowing to the heads. Also, in order to have 2 runner lengths, you'd need to have a computer or vaccum controlled changeover system (more commonly known as a variable intake), and even then, it wouldn't do much good without variable cams and cam controllers.

anyway,
LOOK AT THAT STOCK GRAPH!!!
LOOK HOW FLAT THAT TORQUE CURVE IS!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT LOOKS LIKE OVER 90% OF THE MAX TORQUE, AT 2500!!
Thw s/c sure moves things over, and UP!

(I have a 03 turbo 4.7 in addition to my 00 R/T).
Anyway, on the dyno chart, don't compare numbers below 3500rpms. Baseline dyno was shifted into 4th by 2400 rpms, different driver (me) on the turbo dyno run. Shifted easy 3rd to 4th at about 2900, then hit the gas. You can see the turbo spool up, hence the quick ramp up to max TQ, however I shifted way to late obviously; I do get full boost, 6psi in this case, around 25-2700 rpms. Next time I dyno, I'll spool it up in 3rd and shift much earlier. See this link for a dyno video and you can see how easy I was in shifting into 4th:

Message: Hey IdahoR/T, are you the guy Idaho Speed Center was telling me about. I went in there to get a price for a gear swap on my Rancho lifted 4.7 5-speed, and told me they were developing a turbo kit for the 4.7, and a local guy already had one of their kits. Got me dreaming of the money tree I would need.
