Message: Check you oil pressure sensor on the engine. I had the same problem on GTA a few years ago. I thought my engine was about to blow or die on me because of the incorrect pressure or rather no pressure :)
Very easy to replace, cheap too. If that doesn't fix it, check you oil level then pray your oil pump has died.

Message: Not to sound stupid, but when as the last time you checked your oil level?? You didn't mention if it was full or not. Low oil level will cause low oil pressure. Also, what year Dakota do you have, and what is the actual oil pressure?? Could be the oil pressure sensor on the engine, but also could be the oil pump goin bad.

Message: I have a 97 dak with the 318 3.90 gear in it. My question is... I run 4.5 quarts of oil and a half a quart of stp oil treatment. Every time i rev it up my oil gauge barley moves above 40. Sometimes when it's warm it doesn't even move, like when it's registering 5 grand on the tach it just sits there at 40. Is that the oil pump or the oil pressure sensor???? I got this bad rattle too, and wondering if anybody thinks that the two may be related??? The rattle is 2500 through the rest of the tach. Is this because i have a bad oil pump? It's a thin metal rattle sound it's very pronounce, and sounds extremly awful!!!!! I know that it's not valve pinging or my cat but what ever it is it isn't pretty!!! thanx for any help!!!

Message: I've got a 92 v8 and I am on oil pump # 2. The reason you have low oil pressure is that the take up tube to the pump is clogging up. Also the bushing in the pump are known to wear out. Might as well put in a new oil pump if you pay to have the tube cleared, They are cheap and the labor will be about the same,(not cheap). I've just turned 131,000 miles and hope to get alot more, good luck!

Message: Did the dealership diagnose the problem, or just answer a question for you? If I were asked that question, my (free) suggestion would be similar to theirs. If I were paid to diagnose it, then I would perform the appropriate tests without any guesswork.

Message: hey,
the dodge dealership did do a diagnosis on the truck,of course after my friend put it in and it acted up once more they said they would do another diagnosis for me but of course charge me again since they didnt' put the switch in.Took it to another shop and they ran some tests on the truck and explained exactly what they was doing.Truck is running fine now with the new switch. They suspected possible air got into it when the switch was put in and that's why it acted up once more after i had it put in?!.God knows! Just hope it's gonna be ok now.Oil pump was fine they said.

didn't see any sludge do you think its
possible that a sensor went bad or the
oil pump?

my oil pressure gauge is stable when setting still but when
I drive is goes to L. What do you all think abt that? One
more question, where do I check the valves at to see if it
has sludge and what is sludge? And my truck is also
making a popcorn noise, does that have anything to do
with it? I try and do all my work on my own truck to save
money. I am a female so if you all would kindly explain in
details I'd be ever so happy :) thank you guys...

Message: I have a V6 98 dodge dakota and it recently lost oil pressure. When
It starts the oil pressure is fine but as it warms up it loses oil
pressure. I took it to a dealer ship and they jumped to the
conclusion that i need to replace the engine for 5,500.
Is there a possibility that its something else? It turns over and runs
great besides the fact that its losing oil pressure. Also oil isn't low
and all fluids are good

Message: The first thing you should do is check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. If memory serves me, the factory calls for minimum 6psi @ idle with engine at normal operating temp. And a max of 60 or 80 psi @ 3000 rpm.

Message: 2003 dakota 4.7, 140000 miles- I had just bought
my truck and was driving it for about 3 days when
my "check gauges" light comes on. I look down and
check my oil pressure gauge and it is at 0. Oil
level was good. Next couple of days i have no
problems, then again same thing happens. Again it
happens the next day. I finally get time to check
it out on the weekend and i changed the oil to
full synthetic and I have yet to have another
problem with oil pressure and that was 10 months
ago. I drive 70 miles round trip daily during hot
summer months in Texas. Theres no telling how many
miles the previous owner had on the last oil
change and the oil did come out looking pretty
sludgy.

Message: I have read that the 4.7 liter V8 engines oil pick up tube is small. and a minor amount of sludge build up will cause the oil pump to lose suction, resulting in no oil pressure. A friend had to have a shop pull his oil pan (which ain't easy) and clean out the pan and suction strainer. It least the engine was not damaged. He bought the truck used, and did not know prior oil change frequencies. I have owned my 2000 4.7 liter since day 1, use mobil 1 full synthetic, and change my oil and filter every year or 5000 miles whichever is first. Good luck, bad design by Dodge!
