I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota (automatic 4x2). I am experiencing a few issues. When I come to a complete stop, a few seconds later I feel a little thumb from seems to be the rear. This happens even if I am in stop and go traffic, so it is not speed related. Any ideas?
Secondly, when Iturn on the heat, it seems to smell as if something was burning serious for about the first 10 minutes of the heat. Then it tends to fade away. any ideas?

The thump is more than likely the gas sloshing around in the tank, in my case anyway. . Does it happen between 7/8 and a little more than 2/3? I get no thump full or less than two thirds.
As far as the smell, bad ground? switch? Take it back to the dealer and at least get it documented.

I GOT A 04 CC DAK WITH 4.7 5SPD WITH SAME THUMPING NOISE WHEN STOPPING AND ALSO SAME SMELL WHENN U TURN ON HEAT.... IM PRETTY SURE THUMPO IS GAS IN TANK THE SMELL I HAVENT DIAGNOSED YET.
TECH FOR 7 YRS. I GOT 9000 MILES ON IT AND LIVE IN CHICAGO. NOW THAT ITS WINTER I GOT A SQUEAK NOISE FROM FRONT END AS WELL WHEN ITS COLD FIRST IN MORNING. SOUNDS LIKE BAD SHOCK FOR THE L/F. UNABLE TO VERIFY YET

I get the thump too. I thought maybe it was the transmission downshifting into first.

I hear a thump (sometimes several) in my 2003 from near the gas tank after I park it in the garage and get out. A second or two after slamming the door - thump... thump... thump. Only when the gas tank is full, or almost full.

WELL THE THUMP ME AND ANOTHE RBUDDY DIAGNOSED THIS WEEKEND AND ITS DEFINATLEY FUEL IN GAS TANK. I GOT A MANUAL SO ITS NOT AUTO-TRANS RELATED. ANY BODY ELSE GOT THE SMELL PROBLEM OR SQUEAK FROM FRT END. FRT END PERSONALLY I THINK IS JUST SALT ON SHOCK IN MORNINGS. I also had the stinky heat in my 2003. It seemed to go away after a month or so of use. Got better and better and then it was gone.
