I am certainly hoping that my mileage goes back up in the summer. I've been getting sub 12 because of this terrible winter.

Message: My wife has a Dakota 4x4 4.7, and I thought her mileage was poor, low of 14.5/17.8 MPG. She has about 70,000 miles on it and as far as the TRANNY only lasting 40,000 miles I hope that's not true.

Message: Randy,
That sounds a little low. Are you doing alot of in town driving? I have a 2001 QC with 4.7 and for the last 2900 miles since the beginning of december I have been averaging 15.2. I live in PA. I also drive 60/40 highway/town miles but I also remote start my trcuk 5--10 mintues before leaving. Hope it gets better.

Message: My mileage is around 16.5 too but letting it idle for ten minutes doesn't help. I have 65,500 miles on my 02 4x4 CC and so far no problems at all?? Knock on wood.

It's because of the weather.
Lots of idling. Warming up.
Lots of spinning tires in the snow. Etc.
Just looking forward to the thaw and better mpg.

Message: yep, RandyB's right on the money.
Also when an engine is cold, the choke is on, feeding the engine even more gas until it warms up. Also, I noticed that when the transmission is REALLY cold (like below 0 degF), the truck keeps the RPM's up a bit more than usual. It also does not shift into overdrive until it's completely warmed up. Gotta love Upstate NY winters :) Burrrr!
