Got an Auto Zone store in your area? They will check it with a diagnostic computer for free, they do around here anyways. Probably an O2 SENSOR.. iF NO aUTO zONE THEN SPEND A FEW BUCKS AND HAVE A REPUTABLE SHOP CHECK IT OUT.

Hey Dave,

I have the same truck as you. I also had the code 12 come on twice in the last three months. everytime it happened it was 1) cold out (less then 10* F) 2) not been run for at less 24 hrs 3) real low on gas, cause both times it happened I was on the way to the gas station. So I dont know if it was frozen gas in the tank or what? Both times I just disconnected the neg. side of the battery for 30 sec. to reset the check engine light. after it happened the second time I realized it only happen when the tank was low so since then I have kept the tank full, check engine light hasnt came on for over a month, runs fine.

Dont know if this helps but a code P0012 acording to the book is "A" Camshaft Position-Timing Over-Retarded(Bank 1). Of course, this is out of the scanner manual. It sounds like for some reason the computer is retarding the timing on the A camshaft for some reason.
