Message: if you already have a muffler on it, and it sounds "like crap", running straight pipe will sound crappier...maybe you need to define "sounds like crap"...that was the original question, right?

Message: I have a 1999 Dakota, 5.2, 4x4, SLT. I run k&n air filter and
oil filter. Thinking of replacing stock cat and muffler with a
magnaflow cat (California standard) and flowmaster 40
series Dynaflow muffler. Should I stick with the 2.5 pipe or
go to a 3" from the cat back? What are the pros and cons?
