Message: ya that sounds like a plan with the 360.. speakin of 360...... will it drop in the like the 318 (just incase i happen to find one in good shape)?
that aint too bad for the tranny.. but to get it out would take some time and effort. iv had my experiences with a yard or 2. gotta love the guard dogs... but findin good peices and gettin them off aint a breeze.

Message: Yeah, it'll drop in. The driver-side mount is different on LA 340/360's, same on the passenger side, but you can get those off any 360. This carried over on the Magnums (ears), which isn't an issue for the Magnum-style (low-center block) mounting. With the 360, remember that it's externally balanced, so the torque converter will have balance weights on it. This was the case til '96 when they went to zero-balance converters like the 318's. The balance weights were moved to the flexplate when this change was made. At the same time, the bolt patter on the flexplate was changed, so you can't use a pre-'96 318 converter with a post '96 flexplate. They really like to keep us from re-using old parts, huh?

onto the exhaust. i have the stock Y pipe and cat and flowmaster catback (dual 2 1/4" i.d. tail pipes, will this work or will i have to get a bigger Y pipe and such.? possibly find one from a gen II 318 dak and use that?

Message: The stock deal will work but will be awfully restrictive. I'd shoot for something bigger. Even a stock Magnum setup would breathe better. Your Flowmaster and duals would be okay though.

Message: Yeah. Well, now you'll be running the 3-speed? Hmmm, wouldn't go past 3.55's for street duty. 3.90's are good with the overdrive, but without, unless you're strictly off-roading, 3.90's are pushing it with a 3-speed. I'd look into some sort of LSD/Sure Grip too. Both sets of gears will have to be changed. Wait on that sort of stuff. See what you have with the swap. Then address the issues of traction, etc as you identify them.

Message: i dont know if this helps you much dakota90 but for my 87 4x4 318 swap i used magnum exhaust manifolds from a 95 pick-up. the 318 was a 85 LA motor. im not sure how different 318 heads are from 340 heads.

Message: Hey gen1
Can you clarify a little more what you were saying about the roller cam LA's and pushrod oiling.
I got a little confused in your post about how it is oiling. Is it oiling through the block or is it coming up through the pushrods.
Thanks

Message: dakota90: to do the motor mounts on my 318 i fabbed up some metal to be welded. the pass side is easy. weld a mount off the side of the frame and for drivers side its a little tricky. my mount comes up from the bottom of the frame where the front crossmember is. im not sure what it is. it connects the two side of the frame together. thats where i welded that mount right next to the power steering box. as for clearence of the ehaust manifolds, there is plenty of room for headers. get some that were ment for a newer style dodge dakota. the only thing you need to do is weld shut all the air passages for egr/air pump underneith each exhaust port. you will se what im talking about when you look at the side of the heads. there holes about 1/8" big. you need to do this because the newer manifolds dont accept those holes on the manifolds. if you dont weld them you will have an exhaust leak at every cylinder.
