Subject: Check Engine light, no codes ? IP: Logged
Message: I have a '01 Quad Cab 4.7 that keeps turning on the Check Engine light with no codes. I have an Actron scanner that I've used on other cars so I think it's OK. I've disconnected the battery and the light comes on within a few miles. Engine runs great, 58,000 miles no other problems.

Message: Well, the on-off 3 times sequence worked and I got a P0051 Oxygen sensor code. Guess I'll contact Actron to see what's up with my scanner and then see which sensor might be bad.

Message: I had the same situation with my '01 4.7 last week. I disconnected the battery, light would come on later. It was an oxygen sensor. Pricey little bugger.

Message: Why did you pay for it ? Over the milage for the emissions warranty ? Hoping for some warmer weather to get under mine soon (my light's on too, O2 sensor shorted to ground). Damn chipmunk chewed the wires camping last summer, just taped it up. I knew I should have soldered it when I got home. No way they're going to warranty that...

Message: Cycle the key three times ending with the on position. Don`t go all the way to start or all the way to off. If you did it right and there are no codes you should see "P-DoNe"in the odometer,or codes one at a time if there are more than one.

Message: HI all - 1996 Dodge Dakota 318 engine. No error codes at all (I've tried the cycling MANY times now). The engine starts, revs up to about 1800 then drops to about 400 then back up again. If you give it steady gas up to say 2100 it will sit there for about half a second and then drop to 900 then back up without moving your foot. Just up and down.
It worked fine yesterday and today this crap. And I have to move on Thursday.
Please help.

Message: I think the key trick works on '00 or newer, and some older trucks use a more complicated system of blinking lights that can be decoded.
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: UPDATE on this stupid problem. There were no error codes as the light never went off. The truck would start and do that stupid RPM pulsing thing I described above. I finaly yanked the hot wire from the battery and let it rest powerless for a few minutes. Reattached the wire and all is well now. The error code works and even warned me that the batter had been removed recently. All is well, all is well.
