I like the Warrior myself. That's what I had up until last year. I moved and didn't have a place to store it so I sold it to my best friend. I gave it away for $1K. I had just put a new timimg chain, head gasket, wiese racing piston, gapless rings, and header on it. I'll have another one soon. I do like the Raptor though. It's a bit too much for me. I don't race atv's. The warrior is a fun and capable atv that's not over priced.

Message: Damn you sold that CHEAP.
My other bro in law just got a very very clean Banshee that runs perfect for $2k and what a steal it was. Damn those are fast. But no power at all at low RPM's (NO GRUNT when on back woods trails) and no electric start and no reverse. But damn it's fun at the Dunes. I'd get one for a Second Quad but while I have just one I'll stick to my Warrior for all around fun.

Message: I'm the proud owner of a 1987 Honda TRX250R that is tricked out and ready for racing. I have owned 5 different Honda ATVs since I was 12 and they are renowned for their reliability, durability, and fit & finish.
If you want an ATV that will take all the abuse you can dish out and stand the test of time, buy a Honda. The new TRX450R is a winner, hands down.
As for Yamaha ATVs...well, their upper A-arms are crap. Many of my friends ride Banshees and they have replaced their stock uppers many times because they will bend if you land wrong while jumping. The ball joints in the Yamahas are also crap...kinda like the Dakota I have.
Polaris quads are definitely the girlfriends ATV...too big and too heavy and way underpowered.
Kawasaki and Suzuki have only played minor roles in the ATV market over the past decade and they are content with that status. Suzuki used to make the quadracer 250 and the quadzilla 500 but both of those machines were lacking in many areas...that's why you won't find any for sale these days...they are almost extinct. But do a search for the TRX250R on ebay and see how many hits you get...you might be surprised.
Bombardier makes the DS650, but it is an overweight pig and that company should stick to their previous line of products and stay out of the ATV market.
Then there are all the cheap Korean quads...I'm not even going to go there...
Honda has always made Grade A ATVs and they probably always will...they even made the first ATV. They are built better than all the rest (that's why they cost more). Take mine for example. It was built in 1987 and has countless hours of riding on it, yet it is still good as new.
Check out some pics of it if you like...

Message: Kevin,
"A" arms crap?
My warrior was a 1994 with lots of hours on it and the suspension had never been touched. It was all rock solid the day I sold it 1-1/2 years ago. I stay in the throttle when I'm riding. It's been jumped, wrecked, flipped, you name it, and the one thing I have never had to replace or repair is the front and rear suspension. I did go through the engine twice and 4 ignition modules, but never touched the suspension.

Message: Sorry WipLash, but the Yamaha A-arms are the weakest on the market. The new Raptor has decent A-arms, but the ball joints are integrated into the A-arm...IE. no easy way to replace them. I sold my original A-arms from my TRX250R for $400 to a friend of mine and replaced them with aftermarket +2" wider and +1" forward arms. They also use automotive ball joints that could probably be used on a mid-sized sedan.
I personally saw my buddy Johnny go through 2 complete sets of upper A-arms on his Banshee and half a dozen tie rod ends before he switched to Lonestar A-arms and tie rods.
So don't get me wrong when I say that the A-arms are crap on the Yamahas. What I actually should have said was that they are weaker than the A-arms on most other quads in the same class. For a long time Yamaha was the only manufacturer of a sport quad, so they got quite a big following, but now that other companies are building high performance machines, Yamaha will have to raise the bar in their engineering department.
Don't know much about Warriors, I'll have to admit. I mainly keep up with the racing machines cause my buddies and I are really aggressive riders and we like the fast machines.
I certainly didn't want to step on anyones toes, so I apologize if I did. But if you get the chance, compare the A-arms and tie rods from a Banshee to those on a TRX400EX and you will see what I mean. But then again, if you are serious about performance, aftermarket is always the way to go.

Message: i've got the polaris scrambler400 2x4 2-stroke its pretty fast and i've never had any problems with it,its been through everything.a lot of the older polarises had the problems.i also have a 03 arctic-cat 400 4x4.independent rear suspension rules for mud.i would advise against the wolverine, its just to comprimised, its geared to high for tough areas an it don't have enough power for high speed either.and yes my atv's(one) will fit in the bed of a 95' dak(BARELY!)

Message: I don't like Honda (cars) much at all. But their bikes have always been great and do run and run and run. I don't know if they are BETTER than Yamaha tho. Maybe equal all around. I've taken my Warrior over so many very rocky off roads that I've smashed two skid plates to the point they wrapped my rotor and sprocket! The second one was a home made steel one and I just made my second steel skid plate which should take a sh*t load of abuse before it ever breaks. But the engine and the rest of it have taken the abuse. the wifes 250 two-stroke Polaris has been wrecked by every (guy) who has riden it. It has been fine except for the broken thumb throttle on the first big wreck.
As far as I know the Banshee is about the fastest STOCK quad. And the MOST popular I think. At the BIG dunes the Banshee's are the sh*t hands down. I was just riding one up competition hill at Ogilby several hours ago today. On those you UPSHIFT on your way up and jump off of the top. I'll be buying one for a second bike soon. I'll keep my Warrior for the offroad and the Banshee for the dunes only.

Message: Banshees have a 2-stroke 350cc twin. They are gutless down low but wale just like a Banshee when you get the RPMs up high. But check out the racing scene. All the pros have been riding Honda TRX250Rs for close to 20 years, even though they stopped making them back in 1989. Banshees are great and going really fast in a straight line, but the TRX has got it beat on the twisty trails. I know that from experience. I ride with half a dozen Banshees and they blow me away until we get into the tight stuff, then I'm the one that gets out in front of the pack...and the TRX only has a 250cc single cylinder 2-stroke engine...and it's 17 years old...
So ATVs are just like other vehicles. You need to find the proper ATV to suit your needs. My racer sure wouldn't be any good for lugging around stuff on a farm, but it would be great for herding cattle.
One way or another, regardless of our choice of ATV, we are all part of the same group of people that love off road vehicles. Who has the fastest, or the most agile, or the prettiest ATV doesn't really matter. The only thing important is that we enjoy the ride that we have. When it comes to riding, it doesn't matter what you ride as long as you have fun riding it.
Laterz guys,
Kev

Message: Out at the dunes the Banshee seems to be king.
But when we go out to the forest roads in the mountains my Warrior is much better. I eventually would like to have both. One for the Dunes and one for all other stuff. I also am wanting to build a sand rail. Damn. All these wants. Just need more $$$ and more time (not working) !!!!

That's my bro in law. It was hard facing my sister after I brought her husband to the dunes for his first time. 2 hours into a night ride when we first got there on a Friday night and he was busted up, bone sticking out.
I had to put him on the bike out in the middle of nowhere and get him back to camp. It took 45 minutes to ride back with his leg dangling. OUCH!!!
You gotta be careful. I've been to the dunes since that just a few weeks ago and we are leaving for the dunes again this friday after work.
We just can't stay away.
Those tiny specs are Quads riding on the Dunes.
My bro in law broke his sh*t on the baby Dunes.

Now some of the family members are believing that Quads are evil to ride or something.
But don't forget every single day we take a chance driving our trucks, car, stc in the traffic and on highways. You are sometimes LUCKY to only get hurt as bad as my bro in laws leg when in a car crash!

Message: Ant.
Regarding your 250R...
The picture you pointed us to is of a 250R that is about 75% complete. Do you have ALL the parts to complete it? Do you have a list of all the aftermarket parts on it? What would you be asking for it if you decide to sell it? How many hours does the engine have on it (approx)? I'm looking for a fast ride for my girl and I won't let her have my 87 TRX250R. I really want one of the new TRX450R's but the sticker price is outrageous and I'd end up putting another $5000 in aftermarket hop-ups on it. I was going to settle for a Blaster for my girlfriend, but if I can score a 250R for the right price, then I'll be all over it like stink on $hit.
Hasta Lasagna...(and don't get any on ya)

Message: The missing parts are being powdercoated right now. It will prolly be a while before I sell it. I dont know any details on the engine as I bought it used. Runs real good though. Its a stock 86 motor. +2 burgard a-arms, TCS shocks all around, brand new orange maier plastic, fmf pipe and silencer, +4 Lonestar axle, tag bars, AC racing nerfs and more. The frame, hubs, a arms, steering stem, motor mounts, throttle, brake hub, calipers, rear caliper stay, and spindles are powdercoated. If i decide to sell it soon, i will post on this board.

Message: Cool, my 1987 TRX is almost configured the same as yours is. In fact it is remarkably similar. I even have the Burgard +2 +1 A-arms, but I have Works shocks with triple rate springs. The exhaust is the same as mine too. I have a motor from a 1985 ATC250R sitting in the shed waiting to be rebuilt. Those engines off the ATC's were way faster than the ones in the TRX's. I bought it for $200 as-is and figure it just needs a little TLC and a new piston and rings and it will be a screamer. A crated up brand new TRX250R engine will run almost $2000, and that's if you can even find one. Anyway, if you decide to sell it, let me know what you want for it.

Message: We have been so busy it's hard to finish my friends bike. But we got it together and it doesn't fire up. Got spark, but crappy compared to my bike which is the same. I mean his spark is barely noticable. Has anyone known a CDI unit to cause a weak spark? We swapped coils, that's not it. Funny thing is his bike ran fine before the piston swap. I think I heard years ago about high comp engines not starting with a weak spark. Not sure if it's true, since they would detonate easier I would think.
My compression gauge is old with a broken glass. Looked like compression was ok, but I may go buy a new gauge. Cam timing is lined up, etc etc. The thing doesn't even backfire. Crazy. Bikes suck sometimes with the way they wire the stators to the CDI to the coil, etc. The coils are internally grounded. Opposite of a car. On cars I can wire them silly. In the day I could wire a Chevy HEI ignition module to a Ford or Dodge and vice versa just for the fun of it.
This bike crap is expensive. And my 2003 CDI doesn't fit his 1997 ATV. So we can't swap those parts.
