Message: I had a '92 5.2 RC w/3:55. I recall that it did 7.6 second 0-60 when new/stock. I eventually added Mopar PCM, Flowmaster 2 1/2" duals, Catco converter, Bosch Platinum plugs, K&N drop-in. In 2001, I followed a R/T CC briskly around an interstate entrance ramp. He was obviously "testing" me, but I had to back off to keep from eating his back bumper. "Mopar Action" magazine ran several articles in '93 on a RC w/3:92. It ran 14.9 stock, 14.4 with K&N drop-in and Mopar PCM, and eventually 14.2 with some other mods. In one issue, (running 14.4), it lost to a 275hp 6-speed Trans Am by one length, and totally waxed a 5-speed Mustang GT that never got out of the 15's. What struck me as ironic, was that at the time, you could buy TWO 5.2 RC Daks for what the TA cost!

You don't have to tell me, I was there. My 93cc was awsome. Where did Dodge go wrong after 93. I mean, you had 1991 which was phenominal. It was the first year of the mass produced V8 Dakota. Then in 92 they topped that with the introduction of the Magnum engine. I bought one. Then in 1993 the upped the HP from 220 to 230 and I bought it. The 1/4 times the 93's where putting down suggested they were hitting closer to 250hp. My 93 would run mid to upper 14's all day as long as I could find gas that had no ethonal or methanol in it. There were days I thought I had blown a head gasket or something just to find out it was the gas. It took me a while to figure out that it was the fuels with ethanol and methanol in them that was causing all my problems. I believe it was an article in Chyrsler Power that clued me in about the "blends" not performing as well as the straight gas.

Message: The 1992 and 1993 5.2's were 230hp/280tq. Smaller exhaust manifolds and a different cam in 1994 changed the numbers to 220hp/295tq. One dramatic thing I remember about my '92 was that you just left it in "drive", floored it, and it would scream to the redline before shifting. Great factory setup.

Message: The 93's had 300ft-lbs of torque. Those trucks launch very well. I thought I may have lifted a wheel a couple of times because my steering wheel would pull and get light. The 518 in that truck shifts down good also. The 454 is a torque monster. The 93 is the best reving of the 5.2's. I think you will beat him. Those duals don't hook up as good as most people think. The tires are too stiff and they break loose. If you run a little light on the rear air pressure you should be able to hook up and get the jump on him.

Message: Sorry, I was thinking your dad's truck was a dually. I saw "454" and my mind said DUALLY. You don't see too many 3/4tons with the 454. If he has a good set of all-seasons on the back and 4.11's, he might get you.

Message: I think you will have no trouble beating him, My dak when it was stock would bury the speedo at 198/200 KMh (whatever that is in miles?). That's where the needle would stop and vibrate a bit. It would go faster but not much.

Message: If it helps anyone.. Iv a list of good, and not so good mods.
1992 Dakota CCab, 5.2 Magnum, auto 4 spd 46 RH
transmission, with air conditioning. Stock 3:55 rear swapped to
3:90, best mod yet. Weighs in at 3700 lbs.
First thing I did was 3" Y pipe back single exh, with Flow
master 50 muffler. Huge idle to max, improvement , and
milage increase / k&n max flow filter with filter top, and added
3" riser placing it into my all steel 72 Challenger hood, home
job. Noticeable gain, but not huge / Gibson shorty headers,
port matched, and they had to be, 1/4 smaller than head ports,
sound changed, and possible mid range gain. Not great /
Mopar performance computer . Some minor gain, but not
worth the $400 , and 93 fuel to be used with it , more cost, and
not recommended to tow / upgraded coil, no gain noticed / 1
degree colder plugs suggested , no noticeable gain/ upgrade
bras rotor, and cap, runs smoother, always good/ Duel electric
fans, HUGE milage , power gain from idle to max / Harland
Sharp roller rockers 1.7 ratio, noticeable gain mid to top mostly
/ iat relocated to air inlet, just noticeable , but works / porting
the step from throttle body, gained something....I think ? But
an easy easy thing. 1 hr job, with a good cleaning too / rear
diff swapped to 3:90 from 3:55, huge difference in launch, and
excel all the way through bottom, to top speed. Fuel milage
really increased from 18-19, and now 23 mpg, mix of two hrs
city driving, and 4 hrs on road at 115 kph. With some
aggressive passing play time. Runs 2100 RPM at 105 kph.
With 225/70-15 rear tires / Best performance felt by seat of
pants driving was the exhaust. Electric fans. Rear gears swap.
Then Harland sharp 1.7 ratio rockers. Intake devider
removed, and port matched runner, with knife edging inside air
entering side. Last best was the air filter, and IAT relocation....
Everything makes a difference including the Mopar
computer,,,,, but cost over gains doing one mod at a time, iv
listed the best gains I got. On a dyno pull I'm sure all would
show a tad increase. It will squeak the tires shifting to second
on dry pavement on a warm day. Really Breaks lose hitting
second on a cold day ( BFG T/A tires )
Front lowered 2" BellTech spindles, with street shocks/ rear 4"
drop with BellTech spring mounts, and street shocks. No need
to C cut frame. Rides smoother over larger heaves, and road
waves. Corners better, and hooks up better..tires last longer
now. and less steering pull in a cross wind. Used a 97 Dakota
4.5 inch one piece aluminum drive shaft. Needed special front
u joint to connect to my tranz yoke. Iv a slight vibration starting
at 115 kph ???? Not bin able to correct that yet ? Maybe the
shaft itself, or pinion angles... Iv thought I had the angles
correct. Could be rear diff I re built even...lol
Front and rear swapped to 5 bolt on 4.5 pattern. 1990 front
rotors new cheep, and rear drums, with junk yard 88 to 91 rear
axels. 8.25 diff.
Hope all this helps someone out there. Let me know if you
have any tips for me, or questions
Rick
