noticed that there is no red line on any dakota,
does any one know what the red line is on a 4.7
5 speed? im guessing around 5000rpm

On my 2000 the yellow starts at 5500 and red at 6000. at full throttle my transmission shifts at 5500 and I really don't see a need to go higher. I'm not sure where the rev limiter kicks in.

Your red line is at 6000. The valve train on the 4.7 is lighter than the other motors and there are no pushrods to worry about bending. I think the computer will protect you against accidently over revving but I suggest you verify this with someone else.
