i don't know......whenever i took my truck to get an inspection.....it failed........however the guy showed me the data sheets showing that the cat was perfectly fine.....the final data sheet pointed the cat to be fine.it passed....so then i thought maybe it's a fuel/air ratio problem.....i don't know but that damn light won't come off.....

The only way it would know if your cat wasn't working properly would be if your post cat O2 sensor reported a problem. If it's a false reading, either you have a bad O2 sensor or wiring harness. You should inspect the sensor for obvious damage or contamination. If you don't find anything, unplug the connector and check the pins on both sides. Finally, it could be your PCM which is covered by an 8 yr/80,000 mile warranty as are your catalytic converters. Maybe you need your PCM reflashed with the latest code because your current code is corrupted. Good luck.

i have a 2001 v8 magnum 4.7 dakota and my check engine light came on last summer. the dealer told me the code came out to be bank 1 sensor 1 was bad. when i went to buy the sensor the one for the 2001 had the wrong connector it was round the ones on my truck are square. we finally went in bosh,s direct catalog and found the sensor i need with the correct connector but it was for a 2002 model but it fit my harness connector correctly. after installing the check engine light came back on and has been on since. i have also noticed that the tempature gauge seems to rise faster than it used to when warming up in the morning and it feels as if i have lost some power and fuel mileage. also i notice now if you gun the engine it sounds as if something is rattling around the area of the passenger side catalytic convertor. could someone give me some idea what could be my problem and how to solve it. also i notice two cat convertors one on the left and one on the right with 2 sensors in each and then what looks like one in the single exhaust line with no sensors. what exactly is the last one. thanks for the help

stroker59,

I recently threw that code on my '01 CC RT and when I took it into the dealer they said my cat was bad and they replaced it. Haven't seen another code since and its been 2 months now. I am still under warranty so it didn't cost me a thing. If you have warranty left....I would recommend doing the same thing, might well have it replaced for nothing if you can.
