Hello All,
I had a transmission failure on my 2002 Dakota Quad Cab, 4.7L, 4x4, 56K, with the 45RFE transmission. The transmission went from perfect to not able to shift out of first gear in less than a mile with no warning signs. Upon inspection, fluid level and color were fine. Brought to the local transmission shop and they told me a I needed a rebuild without even looking or dropping the pan. Brought to the dealer and they said that the seperator plate on the valve body was damaged and that it was 1230.09 to replace. On a recommendation I brought to another transmission shop and they repaired the seperator plate for $150 and said that the fasteners for the seperator plate backed out causing the failure. They warned that there "could" be a pressure problem that contributed to this failure, but as of right now the truck is perfect. I have put on 500 miles and one week since the repair.

Has anyone heard of or seem this problem with the seperator plate?

Never heard of the separator plate problem ... but, being a 2002, shouldn't your truck have the 7 year / 70,000 mile powertrain warranty?

Wow,

Doesn't that realy suk!

Look at the different diagnosis, and the different $$ to fix.

Way to go! You were awesomely smart to try still a third shop! Nice job, and look at the $$ you saved for your effort!!!!

A tranny rebuild, to a $150 repair!
