Message: Does anyone have nitrous on their 99 5.2L? I bought the kit from someone, but I don't have the throttle body plate for it.My question is- is a 99 5.2 throttle body injected or electronically injected? If it is electronically injected then what do I use b/c the plate supposedly won't work.

Message: 5.2,
I have nitrous on my 97 5.2. Mine is MPI so Im sure yours is to. All you have to do is look and see if it has a fuel rail and injectors on the bottom part of your intake closest to the heads. Or you can take your intake top off and see if it is squirting fuel down the intake from your throttle body (Easiest way I can explain it) I got my nitrous kit from my Dad when he sold his Ram. Instead of using the throttle body plate, on the Rams, all you do is drill a hole and screw the fogger injectors into the plastic intake top that goes into the throttle body. When I got mine, and I have ram air so theres nothing to screw the foggers into, I had a guy that I know make me a throttle body spacer and tap holes into the spacer for my foggers. He did a really really good job by machining it out of aluminum. If you can, send me a picture of your nitrous kit and I will take a look at it and see if it is the same setup as mine. If so then I might be able to have my friend make you a plate.

Message: chad,
You should call a nitrous distributer and tell them what you want to do. Simply put, you can set up all kinds of different systems without worrying about destroying your engine. Depending on the amount you may have to rebuild your engine; but if you keep it low you can basically run a stock set-up. The problem is that nitrous can be set up to be push-button, computer controlled; theres all kinds of setups. Im a dodge guy and so my neon, all raced out, is running a 100 hp nitrous kit (i had to do a rebuild) but on my dakota im planning on setting up at least a 200 hp boost; my engine is already performance oriented but im actually thinking about droppping in one of those new hemi engines (all those ram hemi commercials almost have me convinced) and if i do im gonna set up at least a 250 hp mitrous kit. The question you have to answer is what are you planning to do with your truck? Mine is set up to bog and eventually im gonna mold it into a show winner. Dont forget your drivetrain; if your engine is already built, can the drivetrain handle the added hp? My advice is to call a nitrous dealer and tell him what you want to do.

Message: Thanks. Mostly I just want the extra get up and haul ass when I want to pass someone or when I am pulling a trailer and want to accelerate quickly. Looking at the drive train it can handle it. Probbaly the wide open throttle set up would be best for me.

Message: A stock engine on any vehicle should be able to handle 20HP/cylinder, i've heard. Furthermore at about 10-12HP/cylinder, no other modifications are required. From 10HP to 20HP/cylinder, timing retard and good fuel are required. However, i'm no nitrous expert either.
But, i did once read of someone on this board who was trying to blow up their 318 b/c they had a 408 ready to replace it with. the person put a 200HP shot (25HP/cylinder) and the bottom end held. So it really is a shot in the dark, the only people that would really know is other more informed ppl on this board and nitrous oxide injection manufacturers such as Nitrous Oxide Systems, Nitrous Express, and Zex. I do believe that Nitrous Express makes a kit for our trucks though. If i were planning on using nitrous oxide, then that's who i'd ask. my 2-cents
