Message: This may be a long post, but I will try and be brief....
99 Dak V8 5.2L Extended Cab SLT
Under load (trying to pass someone on interstate) when I push down on the gas the engine make a clicking sound. Once the tranny shifts up it stops. But when I do give it gas it just clicks like heck. I thought this may be a preiginition issue, so I canged my cap and rotor. That helped a bit at first. I also added come octane booster to my gas and didnt relly notice any difference. Another thought was a valve ratteling, but this really doesnt sound like it. Very hard to explain. Any advise would be appreciated. T
Thanks

Message: I have the same thing with my 97 CC 5.2 4x4....haven't figured it out yet but we shall see....I first had a spark knock under load so I then began running premium fuel and it went away....now it sounds more like a valve or noisy lifter...I'll ask when I take my truck in for the annual inspection

Message: Try colder range plugs (3923's) and a few tanks of 92. Octane booster isn't always.
If it's really bad after all that I'd do the BP gasket.

Message: I have a 95 5.2L that experienced this problem as well. The truck also failed emission testing. The solution was cleaning the EGR system of engine. Apparently build up of deposits in the EGR valve and related ports allow the temperature in this system to rise substantially so that preignition occurs under certain load (acceleration) conditions. Took it to the dealer and cost about $400 to get everything back in working order including re-indexing the distributor and a computer flash (which was not the death flash). I think I got the one technician that drove a Dak as the cleaning and comp flash really improved the performance of the truck. No pinging under any conditions now and its been 20k miles with 87 octane fuel. Oh yeah, one more thing, I switched over to full synthetic lubricants all around.

Message: The clicking sound may be a dead cat in the engine...experienced that problem once. Damn thing was wound up in the belt. Notice any funny smells? Fur coming through the vents? Definite signs.
