Subject: overheating IP: Logged
Message: my 99 dakota is running at high temperatures, but isnt overheating. when going up hills it reaches alittle past the 210 marker, what is the problem

Message: Could be a lot of things. But for the cooling system it generally boils down to two things: 1. Poor water flow 2. Poor air flow.
Don't waste a lot of time on the water pump. It's a pretty simple thing, and it either works or it doesn't. If it doesn't leak, it's working.
Same with the radiator. It should have a pretty uniform temp all across the surface. If not, it's clogged.
If you have a lot of miles on it, change the thermostat. Unless you've reprogrammed the computer, use a stock replacement part.
Also, check the lower radiator hose. If it's soft and squishy, replace it. When the revs get up it's probably collapsing. Use a NAPA green stripe corrugated hose - a whole lot cheaper and just as effective as a formed hose (sometimes better).

Message: if it goes to 210 up hills that sounds either like poor circulation or a faulty gauge. just like .boB said, poorr air flow or poor water flow.
