Subject: Throwout bearing? IP: Logged
Message: Hey, all! Just got back from a long road trip and it sounds as though my throwout bearing is going out. I get lots of noise when the clutch is pushed-in right up until the pedal is released and the clutch is fully engaged. Just cruising down the road, the truck sounds normal, but during shifting or stopping, with the clutch pushed-in, I get a lot of noise (sounds to me like all the grease has slung out of the bearing). Does my guess sound right?
It kind of ticks me off because I just put the new CenterForce Dual Friction clutch in there about a year and a half ago...complete with the CenterForce throwout bearing which is supposed to stand-up to the heavy duty clutch. I reordered a new CenterForce T.O. bearing, but am open to try another brand. Any ideas?
At this point, I'm also thinking that I'm going to pull it all apart and replace just the T.O. bearing and the pilot bearing, since the clutch has less than 30K mi. on it, and I'll more than likely need to get a new flywheel since the one on there now has already been resurfaced once. Any feedback would be greeatly appreciated!

Message: Thanks! I have a pilot bearing on order too. Still trying to decide if I'm going to replace the whole clutch assembly or not, though. There's less than 30K on it, and there's no problem with function...just the damn bearing noise. I guess it might be wise to just do the whole thing as long as I'll have it apart.
I like my Centerforce clutch, but does anybody have any experience with the other performance brands like Zoom, RAM, or Hays?

Message: Sounds similar to the problem i'm having... except i get a clanging, ringing sound, like something is loose and rattling when the clutch is engaged and any time my RPM's go over 1500. Sounds like its coming from the tranny. But I have no problems shifting. I thought it might be the catalytic converter but the converter is hollowed out. I can't figure it out. Help?

An incorrectly adjusted clutch can cause premature bearing failure.

Message: how many miles on the engine? my old car made the same noise when the clutch was pressed, eventually it did it all the time. Thrust bearing on crank shaft was shot and pressure from the clutch would actually move the crack shaft a bit causing rattling in the engine.
