Message: It's a common occurance with the 4.7 and even the Hemi engines to have condensation in the filler neck in the winter. Short trips in the cold will not allow the engine to heat up enough to evaporate the moisture.
There is a technical service bulletin from Dodge about this. The newer model 4.7s have a baffle in the filler neck so you basically can't see it but it's still there.
Try using a good quality synthetic oil like Mobil 1 or Amsoil which is supposed to cut down and in some cases eliminate the white gunk.

Message: Good call, atlantic blue. Notice that the filler neck is separate from the block? The difference in temp will allow the condensate to form. I have used Mobil one since 600 miles, and still occassionally find the gunk in northern illinois winter conditions.

Message: Hey Hemi Kota, that's a very common occurance, nothing to worry about. Here's the TSBs on that symptom.
090100A - ACCUMULATION OF FOAMY OIL EMULSION 4.7L ENGINE OIL FILL HOUSING
Date: 09/11/00 (supercedes 090100 dated 02/00)
Model year(s): 1999-2000
Description:A customer may complain of an oil emulsion accumulation inside the engine oil fill housing. The oil emulsion will normally be foamy and be gray or light brown in color. The emulsion accumulation will often occur on cooler engine surfaces, like the inside of the oil fill housing. Modern engine oils are designed to address the oil emulsion phenomenon. Oil emulsion accumulation is normal and will not damage the engine A new baffle and a revised oil fill housing cap have been released. The baffle and oil cap will help to reduce the amount of oil emulsion accumulation within the oil fill housing.
Details: If the customer has experienced this issue, then perform the Repair Procedure.
Parts required:
53032126AA Baffle, Oil Fill Housing
53032389AC Cap, Oil Fill Housing

Message: I had the same problem and the same concern. The way to solve this, and its good for your engine at the same time, is make sure you get it out on the highway and run it at 60 or 70 for 20 miles or so every now and then (say 2 weeks, especially in winter). That will get everything up to normal operating temperature and should solve your problem.
This will also help your exhaust system which is also building up moisture on short trips.

Message: I live in Ontario Canada and I drive 40 miles one way to work at 80 mph and in the winter even that dosent get rid of the "milkshake". DC really dropped the ball by not putting the oil filler in the valve cover. I'll just keep doing regular synthetic oil changes every 3000 km and wait for warmer weather when the "shakes" stop!!!

Message: Apparently the white gunk only accumulates in the filler neck and not the engine so it shouldn't harm anything.
Regular oil changes with "real" synthetic is about the best you can do for reducing the gunk.

Message: I am glad to have found this thread... I just bought a 2000 4.7L Dakota, and I changed the oil last night. I was shocked to find Cool Whip in the oil filler but I'm resting easier now that I've read several threads on this forum.
My take on the situation is:
- oil foam is a problem acknowledged by DC
- the foam should not cause damage to the engine
- there is no fix for the foam from DC, only a cover up of the foam
- the foam is caused by the decreased temp of the filler neck contributing to condensation of moisture in the oil and engine into a concentrated area
My questions:
- could wrapping the filler with several layers of insulating tape (like the type used to wrap headers to contain exhuast heat) trap enough heat that the condensation effect be reduced? This seems like it may be worth a shot, anyone tried this?
- Could we get together as a group and order custom fabricated metal fillers? I do not think the filler would have to be nearly as tall as the stock one, a tall funnel could be used to add oil. A shorter piece would result in a cost reduction of the part. Speaking of cost, I have no idea how much this piece would cost. Anybody have an estimate?
- Aaron

Message: Aaron,
Nice post! NOt only are you fairly new to the site, but looks as though you researched first, unlike the person who started this post in the first place!
Then, you have a good well thought out possible fix the the problem.
Again, nice post.
My 4.7 here in southeast Texas doesn't get the 'milkshake'.
