Message: To boggerdak & Steve:
Are you sure there is going to be a 2005 Dak? They announced last year that they were going to quit making the "mid-size" Dakota and replace it with a compact.
Just because they say they are going to do something doesn't mean they are. I told everyone early in 2003 that there would be no 2004 R/T because they were going to drop the 5.9L. Everyone including DC told me there would be a 2004R/T. DC told me that they would save enough 5.9L blocks to assemble around 5000 R/T's in 2004. THEY LIED!! I took their word for it and waited. Now I'm buying a used 2000 X-cab R/T.

Message: Well, if the 2005 Dak is gonna look anything like the new Durango, I'm glad I bought my 01' when I did. I think the new Durango looks horrible. Only reason I'd buy one is for the Hemi and the Hemi alone. But I still think it looks ugly.

Message: I saw the 05, someone gave me a link with a pic. it is not the dodge site. It looks like the Durango, not sure if it is exact but very close. It will take a couple years to refine it just like the full size. The first year change on the fullsize size looked like hell but now it seems ok. wait till 06 or 07.
I bought an 04 CC 4wd, 4.7, 5 spd auto, sport plus.

Message: God I hope the new ones don't look like the Durango. The new Durango is $HIT!!! It's ugly to the bone, and I don't see how DC could change from the gorgeous Gen3 to such a HIDEOUS monstrosity. I mean I am VERY happy with my Gen2 trucks, but the Gen3 is ore attractive. Still, I'll never own a vehicle that looks like a pig with it's bottom-lip sticking out.

I agree about the new Durango. What were they thinking. It's not soo bad from the front door back but the nose on that thing looks terrible. Also, why is it when manufacturers put a more powerfull engine in vehicles they think we want a heavier one too. I think the new Durango weighs around 500lbs more than the previous model.
Looks like there will be no more 5.9 for dakotas. I suspect that the 250hp version will be the most powerful engine offered. Because, I'm sure the 2005 Dakota won't weigh much more than the current model unlike the Durango.

Message: I agree with you that the new durango is butt ugly, but it drives and handles ten times better that the previous one ( I still would never buy one). The HEMI power is somewhat misleading, it is not any faster than a 5.9 RT durango. It weighs more than a regular tahoe and does not put out as much power as the HEMI in the ram truck. You can see a couple of pics of the new dakota on allpar.com and they do resemble the new durango unfortunatly. I have to say that the last three dakotas are the only ones that I will ever have owned. In my opinion they ruined a distinctive good looking truck. One good thing is they will offer a 4.7L HO but unfortunately no HEMI like some people may think.

Message: Off the Subject here, but does anyone know how to get the carrier out of a 9.25 rearend on a 01' Dak? I need to replace the pinion bearings and I can not get the carrier out at all. I was told by the dealer that I need a special tool that only they have and I would not be able to gain access to one anytime soon. If anyone has any ideas, much appreciated. I'm desperate here. I want my truck back. Thanx

Are they going back to the 80s style of vehicle with all the sharp edges?
I agree with RAMDAKOTA it does look good from the front door back, only because I don’t think they let anyone from the design team touch it. The interior leaves me with mixed emotions also. I like the brushed aluminum look with the white-faced gauges, but it's the way everything is squared off. With all the edges everywhere it looks like the inside of a vehicle from the 80s. Even the door handles look like they came out of a late 80s early 90s Dakota that they had left over in the parts bin.
I may be crazy but that’s just my 2 cents.
